Drive to park makes for nice surprise once there. Staff is friendly, helpful. Park is clean and well cared for. Store has great gifts, food items. Pool just opened was crystal clear. They were putting in either new or more cabins which were very nice. Laundry clean, game room, nice. Next door an airport but not too overwhelming. If you like military planes you can see a few landing and taking off.
Located 2 blocks from downtown Golden, on Clear Creek. Quiet, clean and easy to reach. Minutes from Lookout Mtn, Coors, Red Rocks, etc. Good Sam is honored. Some sites have grass, some gravel, roads are paved and there are trees, picnic tables. Not what we expected ended up staying for 5 days instead of overnight. If you kayak, people drop them right in the creek, big park right down the street with playground, too.
First impressions aren't everything. Pulling into this park you doubt your choice, until you reach the office and see the mighty Mississippi and the sites facing it. You can watch the river traffic from your picnic table, or sit on a bench and enjoy the view. Easy access from interstate and into Memphis, friendly staff and park is clean.
BEWARE GOOD SAM MEMBERS. We pulled in on the last night of a 6 wk trip x-country and were met with shockingly rude, abrupt, questionable practices. Our GS membership had been honored at 95% of the parks cross country, never once were we asked to show the card or even present the number. Firstly, this park is clean, nice grounds and that's where it ended for us. When the gentleman behind the counter asked about my being a GS member I said yes, but didn't have my card, just the number. Another fella was suddenly on the phone while asking me what name it was under. (We use both mine and my husband's name.) First I gave one name, then went to write down my name and address for him when he said most smartly, "I don't need that, think I can remember it." They told me I was expired. I knew I was not and offered to go for the number. I was told, "No, you are expired." They could not tell me as of when. The next question was, "Would you like to renew it for $12.00?" Throughout this whole process, I was made to feel as though I was quite a bother to them. I did not receive the discount, which isn't the problem. I called GS from my site and I WAS VALID THROUGH 06/09. The representative offered to talk with them, and when I asked the guy to take the phone he said, "No, I have nothing to say to them." This entire process ended up with a conference call between myself, the supervisor at GS and the park manager lady. Her point was that I didn't have my card and the clubs rules say we must present the card to get the discount. During this call when it was said I have the road service program the manager quickly cut off the rep to ask, "Excuse me, did you say she had just the road service membership, and that entitles her to the GS membership services?" Surprise: it does. Needless to say we received nothing from this campground but bad manners, policies, and zero good feelings. The owner wouldn't even come and speak to us when we asked to see him: no one came all night. So, if any of you need a campground overnight or for a few days and you have to choose this one, be prepared. I have come to find out they are the number 1 GS membership card sellers in the country: umumum. If they treated people with more respect and decency well then by all means they would have gotten a thumbs up. Never would I recommend this park or go back for that reason and for the mistreatment of the GOOD SAM PARK logo we come to trust.
