The Country Waye KOA is one of the most beautiful and well kept parks we have ever stayed at. There is not a blade of grass out of place. It is not a large park (which adds to its appeal for us anyway), which is surrounded by farmland and gorgeous mountains with lots of trees for shade (and spots without if you want to use your satellite). It is quiet and peaceful with wonderful views all around. The Wi-Fi is very slow unless no one is using it and they do not have Cable TV which is the only reason I did not give it a 10 rating. I highly recommend this park to anyone visiting the Luray area. We will definitely return again when we are in that area of VA.
I had great expectations about the American Heritage RV Park after reading all of the glowing reviews. I have found this review site to be fairly accurate (some of the time) but this is not one of those times. This park is not a 9 or 10 (which many rated it) compared to many other parks we have stayed at. Upon registering we asked if we could see our site first and choose another if we did not like the site, but they said we could not, that they were full and we had to take the site they put us in. We were put in site 55 which was tiny and like being in the middle of a city block surrounded by children, barking dogs and absolutely no grass for our dog to even sniff. (You had your cement pad with table and that is it!) I understand that it was a summer weekend but they did have other sites that were much nicer, larger and in a quieter area of the park, that were available when I walked around. (So be sure to ask and see your site!) We felt like sardines in a big parking lot! Oh and did I mention the train? It passes nearby every few hours with its whistle blowing. The Wi-Fi was extremely slow (just plan to use your cell phone hot spot) but the Cable was very good. The only positive we found was the nice nature trail in the woods to walk the dog. (After walking down a long row of motor homes to get to it, with hardly any space between them and a road in front and a road behind.) You are told to be sure your dog doesn't go onto anyone's site which is almost impossible since the sites are so small and right next to the roads. All and all I have to say this Park was extremely overpriced and over rated.
I would not stay at this campground unless you cannot find anywhere else to stay in this area. It was like parking in a truck garage parking lot with an extremely noisy freeway running along one sides of the park. There was loud traffic noise all night. The older section is nothing but pavement with the sites very close together (no grass at all). They have a newer section that does have some grass and trees that looked OK but there are very few sites in that part of the park and they were full (and there was a lot of traffic noise there also). In addition to the traffic noise it was near an airport and there was loud planes taking off and landing. There was no where to walk our dog except in the newer section along some roads (fortunately a residential area with little traffic). I would not stay at this park again.
This park is not located right next to the interstate which gave it privacy and peace and quiet (hard to find these days as most parks are located near a busy interstate, a train track, or an airport). You must go back a long gravel road to enter the park which is part of what used to be a farm (there are still a few horses there). The sites are mostly level and gravel. Some are pull through and some have shade and trees (the back in spots next to some woods that surround the campground). There are lots of trees for shade, especially around the back-in sites (the pull throughs are more open). There was lots of areas to walk next to a creek which our dog loved. There was full hookup available and 50 AMP service. The sites are a bit rustic (no picnic tables or cement pads) but this added to the more park-like feel of the park (versus the parking lot feel you have at most parks). The sites were not real roomy but there was plenty of room for our slide outs. There was Internet Wi-Fi which was not very fast but worked fine for email, etc. You could pick up some TV Channels out of San Antonio. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We love scenic parks such as this and would definitely stay there again if we are in the San Antonio area.
