We found this campground while surfing the net because we wanted to leave the campground we were currently staying in and we're sure glad we did. This campground was clean, pretty, treed, large and with spacious sites. There is a store, snack bar, putt putt (fee), playground, 2 large pools and laundromat. There are a lot of activities for the kids. There is a nightly outside movie on the big screen under the pavilion. The bathhouse is a little dated with push button showers. Clean and hot. There are many site options, from tent to cabins to pods with patios. There are seasonal sites, well kept up and most with beach themes. It is quiet after 10pm. Grand Haven and the beautiful Lake Michigan beach is 6 miles away. Lots to do there and enjoy. We thought $55 a little pricey for a site with a patio but without Internet ($15 a week) or cable. But, in the end we didn't mind as we enjoyed the campground, atmosphere and area very much. Beware, the street address is hard to see, and the campground sign says Grand Haven Campground. We will return to this campground.
Pros: campground clean. Cons: too much cement, not enough trees. We were in the row that had no trees, no shade, our front door literally 8' from next trailer. Walmart within walking distance on busy highway, lots of road noise. Had to be outside of rig for consistent Wi-Fi. There are 10 showers, one out of order, 2 never warm and baskets always overflowing with paper towels, stalls tiny and dark. If you like parking lot campgrounds, this place is for you. We left 4 days early, despite "NO refund if you leave early" policy - $200 free for them. They must have had a lot of people leaving early to have that policy. We couldn't see staying a whole week there, they pack you in like sardines. We would not go back.
This is a beautiful, huge, hilly, treed park. We were in the campground (there are 3) farthest from the front entrance. It was actually 6 miles from the entrance, that's how big the park is! Just lovely! There is a gigantic pool (nominal fee) and a lodge with a casual restaurant. Downtown Nashville (Ind.) is a very fun, artsy place to visit. It's convenient if you are visiting Bean Blossom (10 miles) for one of their music festivals. For a State Park, it's a 10. For an RV'er like we are, it's an 8, only because they don't have full hook ups, cable or internet. Even so, we would definitely stay there again. It would be absolutely beautiful in the fall.
This park is all about location being close to downtown Shipshewana. No shade and not "pretty". No activities, no pool. Bath house clean. Campground clean. Staff nice. Pay for internet. No cable. We would stay here again only because of it's proximity to town, although it's still too far to walk.
Pricey, but worth it for a family trip. We stayed in the Lighthouse Point section of the campground, which seemed to be a litter less cramped than the other section. Sooo convenient to be right next to the park which you can walk to, or shuttle to. You also get to enter the park one hour early staying at the campground; we rode the most popular rides (ie Millenium, Top Thrill Dragster) in that hour rather than wait hours for those particular rides later in the day. It was wonderful to go back to the campsite during a brief rain storm and rest up, eat home made food and then go immediately back to the park again. Note; there are grills at the sites, but campfires are not allowed (so no s'mores). It's OK, because staying at the campground allowed us to stay in the park until absolute closing time. After a whole day at Cedar Point we didn't care too much about having a campfire. The park is clean and kept up. Bathrooms clean. The campground is not really "pretty" but that's not what we're there for, however, there are trees and shrubs. Lake Erie is right here and its nice. Soak City was fun and not very crowded. We enjoyed our stay here and would do it again; we recommend it.
Bath house dirty, smelly and dark. Paper toweling all over the floor. Not clean, period. One shower (pay) out of 3 worked, and the water never even got warm. Drain very slow and had to stand in 2" of standing water throughout shower. Yech! Would not recommend this park, nor return.
Hilly, landscaped beautifully, flowers everywhere, wooded, very clean. Workers around all over everyday tidying things up. The pool was huge. The showers (pay/bathroom were always exceptionally clean and water hot within seconds, and stayed hot. The owners nice and on site every day. Seasonal campers friendly and welcoming. Very lovely park, and we enjoyed our stay very much. We would recommend, and return to this park.
