A beautiful state park with beautiful views. We stayed overnight. I wish we'd had more time here. The nightly camping rate was $18.00 and there is a $6.00 daily entrance fee to the park for a total of $24.00 daily 12n - 12n. Every site had electric and paved pad. Water faucets are avail about every 4th site. You can hook up to fill your tank then unhook. The sites are spaced but not private (where we were). The park is a long drive to/from anywhere.
Not bad for a KOA. Had more of a campground feeling rather than just an overnight stopping place like most KOAs. Some of the pull through sites were a little tight. We saw 2 RVs in the pull through section back to back with just a few inches between their slide outs. We had a back in site on the stream. Our site was a little short for our 32' 5er and TV. We had to wedge our truck between a fence and our 5er to keep from sticking out in the road. Campground was quiet at night. Each site had a picnic table and combination fire ring/grill. We rented a jeep during our stay. The owner was friendly but not very helpful or knowledgeable about the jeep trails in the area. Jeep rentals are limited to daily mileage unlike rentals in town. Very basic campground. Ok for overnight stay. Staff friendly but not very helpful. Our truck broke down and we needed a dealership for parts and repairs. Staff couldn't even tell us if a dealership was in town nor did they offer any assistance to us during our 3 day stranded/stuck here stay. Office closes for hours during the day. Cable connection didn't work at our site. (800) 562-9033
Stayed 1 night while passing through area. Couldn't find CG we were looking for. Glad we were only staying 1 night. CG set up is awful!! LOTS of LIVE THERE types. Sites not long enough for our 31' 5er. We would NOT stay here again.
Stayed over 1 night traveling through. Quiet CG. Sites were not level. DO NOT LEAVE MONEY IN NIGHT DROP - OURS WAS STOLEN!! They knew who did it and the Sheriff knew him well too!! Wait to pay next AM if overnighter. Don't think we'd stay here again. Wouldn't have the first time except we were VERY tired and couldn't make it to Billings. CG itself isn't bad, very uneasy about the management and the area.
Not bad for a KOA. Beautiful views of surrounding Mts. Friendly staff. 2 hot tubs on grounds. NO shade trees, VERY, VERY windy!! NO TV, radio or cell phone service. Wi-fi service use in office only. Good location for base camp for going to the sun road and Canada crossing. We stayed 4 nights.
Nice, quiet cg on the SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN with pines all around. We liked the cg but the site we had was TOO short and narrow for our 31' 5er. We had a hard time parking our TV on site and pulling out was tough too. NO television reception so we couldn't watch weather reports but cell phone worked. Nice pond by the office with benches and swings around it, beautiful view of Mts from pond and office.
Stayed over 1 night while traveling through. Nice, quiet CG, friendly staff. There was a newspaper left on every picnic table the next morning which we thought was a nice service. We saw the local police drive through CG twice. CG is next to a mobile home park which we thought might be a problem with noise but all was fine.
This is a campground setting not an RV resort. Sites are well spaced, somewhat friendly people, quiet park, lots of pines. The laundry room is VERY SMALL only 3 washers & 4 dryers. There was a line waiting to use them when we were there. It looked like they were building a playground for kids. We would stay here again if in the area.
This park is clean, quiet and very peaceful. The owners are friendly, my husband says they're "almost too friendly", and helpful with the area. The camp sites are gravel with small concrete patio and a picnic table. The sites are close but you do have some elbow room between you and your neighbor. There's a play ground area for kids. I gave it a rating of 8 for the following reasons - our site was very unlevel and we couldn't get the RV level no matter what we did, the trees between sites don't provide shade. They offer 10% AAA and Good Sam discounts. We would stay here again when in the area.
This KOA has some electrical problems. When we plugged into the shared electrical box our camping neighbors electric went out. The staff could not find the problem so we requested to be moved so the other RV could use the only working electrical plug. One of the plugs in the site we were moved to wasnt working either but we were the only ones hooked up to it so it didn't matter. This is a smaller KOA from ones we've stayed at in the past. The owner and staff were friendly and helpfull. The grounds are well kept. All sites have grass - there isnt a designated "parking" site for RV's just pull up on the grass and hook up. There is a pond with a lighted fountain. That's the reason for the "water front" mark above, there are campsites along one side of the pond. There's a shaded dog run for pet owners who want to allow their dogs to run off-leash. A small game room with a pool table. A fishing pond - .40 charge per inch for caught fish (**you HAVE to keep what you catch**). Cable tv is not offered but tv reception wasn't a problem. Campground is next to the Gunnison airport but it's quiet at night (after 10/11pm). A small store is located in the office but it's not well stocked with grocery items, it's more of an expensive souvineer shop. This KOA serves as a good basecamp for exploring the Gunnison and surrounding areas. We would consider staying here again because the staff was friendly and the grounds were well kept. The only draw back to us is that your RVs front door may be facing the neighboring RVs front door AND have an RV behind you with your shared hook ups between you. This type of set up gives you very little room or "privacy" since you and the RV your facing are sharing camp space. The staff seemed to be alternating sites to keep crowding to a minimum, but some RVers weren't so lucky.
We've base camped here twice while seeing the sites in San Antonio. The first time was right after the cg flooded in August 2002. The staff then was VERY friendly and helpful. In 2005 when we stayed, the staff wasn't unfriendly but not as friendly as the previous stay. The only cable TV provided is in the area where most of the permenant residents stay. This area is located at the front of the cg where you have all the coming and going noise and some highway noise. But if you are inside watching cable TV, it's not a problem. We'd stay here again because the location is convenient and the cg is good enough for base camping.
