We stayed at the Wilmington KOA while traveling the coast. We found this to be a nice campground, considering that just out of the driveway is a very busy street. The Wilmington KOA is pet friendly, which is important to us. It's clean and was quiet while we were here. The staff was friendly and helpful. This KOA is really the only real player in the RV park game in the Wilmington NC area. It is a smaller park. We have never not been able to get in here but, it's never a bad idea to make reservations. Although we didn't use them we noticed that they had camping cabins here. We definitely plan to use this campground again in the future and, joined KOA to get the discount at this location.
Ocean Lakes has to be one of the best RV parks in the country. It pretty much has everything. It's huge. They have flat, level, concrete pads to park your RV on. They have a big pool, snack bars, a big laundry mat, 24 hour security, an arcade, etc. It's a good trip to the beach. The down side is also the upside, it's a huge RV park. Sometimes you might want small. Although the staff is friendly we found that folks that stay here seem to often be a bit more distant than you might find at smaller RV parks. Just an observation, not scientific. Over the years we have stayed at Ocean Lakes many times and will surely go back. The best times to go, in my opinion, is spring and fall. On big weekends like, Memorial Day and Labor Day this park can get irritatingly crowded and a bit loud just from the sheer numbers of people. But, in spring and fall it's pretty close to perfect. The weather can be really nice and the crowds are gone.
This is a nice campground. Our motorhome was under 35 feet, or whatever the limit is to get a spot right on the river in the shade. I really liked that. I would have given this campground a ten except that the plug for our cable TV was broken. We complained about it within hours of our arrival, they said they would fix it, and never did. Also, the wireless internet was very sketchy and unreliable, at least at our site. But, we will definitely stay here again. The people that were camping here were all nice. The campground is pet friendly for small dogs. You are close enough to sites in the area but, far enough out not to have major traffic issues. It's just a short hop to get back on I-40.
