We camped on site 45 in the beach campground. Positives - close to great natural beach, clean restrooms, laid-back & quiet atmosphere, nature programs for family, good bike riding on island, grocery store across the street. Negatives - dump station a mile away, hard to get reservation. Weather was beautiful. Saw sea turtle nesting. Very relaxing.
White Lake is very clear and unusual because it contains no fish. It was fun to play in. You definitely need to bring floats. The piers are really nice. This is a good campground for a weekend trip, if you don't need to drive too far to get there. We stayed five days which was really too long and travelled 3 hours to get there. Taking a boat would make it more fun. The campground needs some upkeep. We didn't see any workers around the campground except for the trash pickup and those working in the office & store. Young children drive golf carts and are pretty noisy until late into the night. The restrooms were dirty. The town has a nice waterpark & we enjoyed the go cart track across the street but there aren't any places to eat. We traveled to Elizabethtown to eat at the Front Porch which was excellent.
We camped at a creekside site. The park was very well-kept with lots of amenities that kept our kids entertained. Some seniors who stay in the campground also work there. They are very friendly and take great pride in their campground. The cafe has a wonderful breakfast offered to campers at a discount. The pool is very clean. We enjoyed watching the square dancing and attending the Sunday morning church service. The only disadvantage was the lumber mill across the creek that started up very early and woke us up. But even with that, I would give this campground a ten.
This was our second visit to the campground. We were there for the weekend of Memorial Day. The first time we camped there, two years ago, there were very few children. But, this time there were lots of young families and children. Our kids had a ball playing with them. The campground is very pretty and clean. The management was friendly. We camped in a waterfront lot which was a little expensive, but unique among the campgrounds we've visited. The only suggestion that I have is for the Hilton Head bike trails to be extended to the campground area. That would make it outstanding.
We love camping at this campground. This is the 4the time we've camped here. We love the bike trails and the convenience to downtown Charleston and Folly Beach. We enjoyed the water park which is great for kids under 12 and is very reasonably priced.
We drove over 5 hours to camp here and made our reservations months in advance. As soon as we arrived, I took the children to the pool. This is where I made a crucial mistake, I allowed my children to enter the deep end (8 ft) of the pool by bending over hands-first instead of feet-first. This was considered a dive (there was a no diving sign) and one of the employees came rushing in to severely reprimand me. She accused my children of doing handstands and flips which they most certainly were not doing. I apologized and didn't let them do it again. I was wrong to let them do that, but other campgrounds we've stayed at allow this if the deep end is 8 ft. But I was wrong and I am usually a rule-follower, not a rule breaker. But since I made this mistake, I was continually watched by the campground employees. One even parked at our site on her golf cart and watched us one morning. I was on the computer and my husband was cleaning the grill. She sat there for at least 5 minutes, staring but not speaking, until my husband asked if he could help her, then she told him that she hoped he wasn't making a mess because their employees had to clean the sites. It was a gas grill and he was only washing it off. Bearing this in mind here is my assessment: Positives: (1) Good access to the creek (2) Clean restrooms (3) Clean campground (4) Bike trail across the road (5) Great preacher at the church service Negatives: (1) Nazi-like employees that watch you like you're a criminal (2) The campground store has 100% markup (3) Tube rental is a rip-off. Go up the street and rent for 1/2 the price of the campground (4) There is a rule not to leave dogs unattended. We didn't take our dog but I wouldn't risk it if you plan to leave them for any time at all. (5) Sites are very close together. Overall this is a pretty nice campground if you know all the rules and can obey them without exception.
This is a very nice campground. It is small enough to be easy to get around without a golf cart but large enough to have nice amenities. I love the indoor pool that is located ocean front. It was nice to be able to sit on the deck while looking at the ocean. We also enjoyed the basketball court. It was too cold to swim in the outdoor pool but they were remodeling it while we were there.
This is one of the best campgrounds we have stayed in. We camped in an ocean / pool area site. It is small enough not to require a golf cart to get around but includes many amenities of the larger campgrounds, like Ocean Lakes. Even though it is very close to great restaurants and shopping - Tanger Outlets and Walmart are within a mile of the front gate - it is very quiet. We were there during a "bike week" and did not notice any motorcycle noise. The pools are large and pretty uncrowded. The snack bar is actually reasonably priced for most items. The store and laundry were very nice and they are in the process of renovating the bath houses. The new ones are amazingly nice and clean. The only drawback I saw was that the streets between campsites and the sites themselves aren't paved or don't have concrete pads, which isn't a big deal to me. We will definitely be back.
