When I called, she said "Oh, I have a great spot on the Lake" and I said, "I'll take it." The rest just got better... This is a very cool camping spot. Nice facilities and great staff. They have a large pond with turtles, lots of scenic trails, bridges, boat rentals, and fishing spots galore. The ranger that feeds the animals (7:30 am) tossed some feed around us on our morning walk, so the animals would come close. Made for good photos! Our site (#17) was right on the lake, luckily the Gators were hibernating so we didn't have to worry about our bumper being beautifully close to the waters edge. There is plenty of wildlife to see, deer, birds, ducks, wild pigs and raccoons. We'll be back. It was great all the way around.

Not Recommended. As previously stated in other reviews, the staff here is not friendly or welcoming in anyway. In fact they are down right rude. Upon our check out, they created extra charges for dumping and told us that we should have paid for full hook ups if we wanted to empty our tanks. Every place we've ever stayed with partial hook ups, we were welcome to dump for free at the community dump station (including other KOA's). The Abilene KOA didn't notify us of the BROKEN dump station nor the charge to dump in their make shift dump station (someone else spot) when we checked in for two nights in a partial hook up space. In addition, this KOA is not near enough to the sights of Abilene for the price. They are very close to the freeway (I-20) and right under the Motel 6. The spaces were level but the bathrooms were iffy, they were very old (broken tiles) and falling apart but cleaned. The Motel 6 next door was the same price as full hook ups ($39)! We will not be staying here again do the poor customer service (staff). Instead, stay at Abilene State Park, TX for only half (only 15/per night). Much prettier location and near historic Buffalo Gap.
