This park could use some updating. We camp at Lake of the Springs more because it's just a bit nicer. We did have a fantastic space right on the water's edge, but would have been nicer if the gravel was not so big. I like to sit outside without shoes if it's nice and the rocks were too big and sharp even through the thick mat we use. It seems like a little thing but it was annoying. I loved the geese and ducks and it was fun to watch the rafters go buy.
We too had trouble getting through to the management by phone. They truly have the worst customer service I have experienced at any campground. My husband called repeatedly to make a reservation because we were meeting several other members of our family for a reunion. We should have realized when they didn't answer the phone and when they required full payment up front that we were not dealing with a reputable business, but we wanted to enjoy a vacation with family by the beach. We found out several weeks before our stay that we would not be able to make it in time for the first night so we left a message on the answering machine that we would be there early the next morning and to please call us if that would be a problem. Please note that we finally left this message a week before our arrival and only because we could not reach a live person by phone. We did not hear back from them so we assumed, like with other reputable campgrounds, that everything was fine for us to come in early the morning after our scheduled arrival. We drove around the gate and figured we would just walk up and check in when the office opened for business, after all we had paid for the spot and we knew where it was. The manager apparently saw us drive down and he high-tailed it in his pickup and stopped right in front of us, jumped out of his truck and very rudely asked us what the **** we thought we were doing. My husband did not know who he was because he never identified that he was connected with the campground, but said we called and left a message and had already paid for the spot. Now, any reasonable person would have said there must have been a miscommunication, but not that guy, he had his chest all puffed out and looked like he was going to punch us out. Now picture this--we have a new RV, are middle aged and do not look the least bit like we are going to be dishonest. He made us go back up the hill and wait for hours before we could go back down to our campsite, that had been paid for and that we were already in front of when he pulled in front of our rig. There was no need for this guy to be so rude and condescending. Oh yah, and he also said that we can't expect them to return phone calls. Excuse me? Why would you have an answering machine if you don't return calls. We will never stay here again.
