New owners have been working hard to make this a nicer park. There are trains close by and you do hear the whistles but the trains are slow moving and hardly noticeable; especially, if you have the air on. Yes, it feels like the middle of nowhere but you are only 5 minutes from historic Fort Laramie and 15 minutes from Guernsey and the Oregon Trail Ruts, Grey Rock Reservoir and many more historic sites. Rates are Passport America. I will stay here again on my way to Yellowstone.

Gorgeous park set in the San Juan Mountains with huge pine trees for shade. Sites are mostly level and the park roads are gravel/dirt. It can be a little difficult to get a good line of sight for your satellite so you may want to ask about that when you reserve. Main drawback is the wifi. Really spotty, some days downright unusable. People are really nice that run the park though. There are tons of hummingbirds so hang a feeder! Be careful when driving around the area because there is lots of wildlife. We saw numerous elk, mule deer, and turkeys. You are only about a mile away from the Vallecito Reservoir which is a popular fishing lake. It is an easy day trip to Silverton also. Stayed 13 nights in a 37' fifth wheel. Would stay here again.

Great campground run by super nice people. Pretty easy to get into all the sites and they are very wide, fairly level, gravel sites. You can actually park next to your rig, the sites are so wide. They are on their third year of ownership and work very hard daily on improving and upgrading the connections. They honor PA and Escapees and the nightly rate reflects the PA with a weekly rate. They also have a "loyalty" program that gets you a free night after staying five nights. Only problem is they have well water and lots of sediment. We used two filters on the hose and one on the sink and still could get cloudy water so you should probably bring some bottled water. Can't say enough about what nice people they are! We will be back here in the fall on our way south. The campground is a great hub to use for trips to Pikes Peak, Royal Gorge Bridge, Colorado Springs, the Collegiate Peaks range, etc. WiFi is recently upgraded and is awesome too.
