Only game in town. Host drove up on a golf cart and met us on the entrance road. Only info needed was overnight pull thru and last name. Cost $20 cash and woo-ya, he led us to a perfect site to pull out of in the morning. No problem. Easy Peasy.
Well organized for a very large county park. Only downer for the dog was the sand burrs in the grassy areas. BTW, dogs are allowed on the beach! This is a good park to be near all the action of South Padre Island.
Great centralized park for the tourist area of New Braunfels, Gruene, and San Antonio visit. The park office is very friendly and helpful. They have organized activities all week in club house. Wildlife can been seen in the surrounding fields early mornings and at sunset.
This was a great park. The employees were always on duty. The sites (waterfront site #17) are clean and landscaped. The sports bar had live bands during the weekend. The menu at the restaurant was limited to BBQ. There is some industrial noise, but this is New Orleans. Shuttle was $5 RT to the quarters. After 3rd time shuttle was free. There is also a dog park. Only downside was the park road turned to concrete gumbo mud during the rains. Our rate was based on Passport America membership.
Another overnight visit to a great campground. Long pull through sites available. A walk around the lake is a nice break from long day of driving. We were escorted and spotted to our site. Wi-Fi was good. Cash or check only. Very nice county park.
This was an overnight stay after a long day of driving in the rain. Office staff go the extra step to make you feel welcomed. After registering with Joan, she gave us soup for our dinner. Then we were escorted and spotted into a long pull thru. Sites are narrow. Pet park was nice. Very clean park. Good shopping in area.
Good location off I-10. Sites were typical KOA size. Staff was friendly. San Antonio is constructing a recreation trail along the Alamo River adjacent to park property. This will be a nice touch. Wi-Fi was good.
Was going to stay 2 weeks. There was no place for dog to walk without getting sand burrs. Owner was nice when I had to call to get site changed. Asked for pull through when I emailed, and was assigned a back-in. Decided to move closer to San Antonio after one night. Never saw any office personnel. Left money in locked office slot and moved on.
We did stay here. We looked around at the entrance and saw it was trashy. We asked to turn around to the main road, that was a mistake. The campground roads were tight and over grown trees and bushes. At one curve we rubbed against the stumps being used as barriers. Maybe a 30 foot Motor Home would be the maximum size that would fit.
Well we expected too much from the previous reviews. Seams like most of the sites are taken by seasonal campers with extra refrigerators etc sitting outside their campers. They do have full hook up sites, however they are very hard to get. They do have 1 loop that is reservable which has 2 community water hookups, 30 amp and no sewer. Mens showers had no private dressing area however the Ladies showers had private areas. I guess the park would be Okay if you only needed 30AMP and don't mind hauling 200 ft of hose to fill your water tank and didn't need sewer.
The campground is just okay for a weekend or overnight stop over on HWY 43 or HWY 80. The park is being renovated. It has a good layout of day use and campgrounds. Many sites are river front. We were able to watch the barges from our site. But the location is not the most desirable. There is industry and railroad tracks on the way to the entrance. This park is very close to town, so cell phones will work. There is a new Walmart Supercenter being built about 3 miles from park. The camp hosts were not the best. Some rules were enforced and some were not, depended on who you were or what state you called home. There is not much to do in area. Will not return to this park
Very nice COE park. A distance from everything. Be sure you have all your supplies before you arrive. The sites #1 to #8 are right on the river with wooden decks at the shoreline. The rest of the sites are very nice but in a valley, can get HOT. This park is opened all year. Very clean and quiet.
The park was golf course beautiful. Sites were large and well planned for all types of RVs. Be sure to make reservations. This park fills up every weekend. Wonderful bike and hike trails. Try the local eatery OVERALLS in Carthage. The only reason - for the 9 rating is because there is no sewer hookup and most sites are gravel but level. Will definitely return.
Park was very quiet. Spanish moss on big oak trees. Walking through the historical buildings was very interesting. Walmart is about 4 miles from the campground. The park could use some updating and cleaning in the buildings and the sites. All in all, it was just okay. Would return for a couple of days.
