We are here now, site 27, a full hook up, pull through, shaded site. Golfing here and a 12 acre lake. You can rent paddle boats, even bring your own canoe (even though web site says you can't). Large level sites. Quiet campground - great if you just want to rest. Our rate is full hookups. Would go back again !
Really like this park. It was our first time here. Sites plenty large enough and wide enough. Lots of shade. Has a golf course but we didn't use it. Can't really canoe in lake as it is grown over with weeds. Has a pier. Two walking/hiking trails. Also has a water splash area for the kids. I would definitely come here again.
Sites a little tight but ok for our 33 ft fiver. A little unlevel, so use your boards. They had Tengo Wi-Fi. We used our Passport America so price reflects that. Only was an overnighter for us heading west. Would stay here again if needed.
As said before there is construction going on. Pool was closed when we were here. Revamping it and the walkways I believe. Nice large park. Laundry facilities (get there early) and easy access to drive to the ferry to take you across to New Orleans. Stayed here 3 nights and would go again. We had NO with the grass, stickers, bugs or anything else.
Stayed here 3 nights. Has nice, level concrete pads. Bath house was immaculate. Pool was great. (It was 106 degrees when we arrived.) Our pull through site happened to have at least 50% shade which was nice. Lovely lady in the office to help us. You get a discount if you pay cash! Would definitely stay here again.
Such a nice park for an overnighter. Everything was kept immaculate. Office personnel was very nice and helpful. Would definitely stay here again if needed. It was just off the route we needed to travel the next day anyway. This was a Good Sam Park also.
Older, smaller park. Lots of permanent residents. Office was closed when we arrived mid-afternoon. Went to office next day to pay and was told they are no longer members of Good Sam (made reservations 5 days earlier). Also not told they charge per day for electric at site. Site was large enough marginally and small side to side. Would not stay here again due to their lack of honesty and not informing me of paying a daily rate plus electric.
We are staying here now and will be here 3 months. Rate is $30 for county residents. Pets are $1 more per night per pet. Two vehicles per site are allowed. Full hook-ups with nice large sites. Would have rated this a 10 if they had more trees, but thanks to hurricanes the last 5 years, lots of sites have no trees. But you are on a canal and we get lots of breezes from the west. The Everglades are just other side of the berm.
What can I say...I love Savannah and love this CG. We went to town one day and road bikes all day, leaving our vehicle at Visitor Center. ($1.00 an hr) Went on birding trail in CG & did 3.5 mile bike ride on the backside where bikes are allowed. Great shaded pull thru sites. Had a wonderful time. Large sites. Restrooms were clean. They have laundry facilities-which we used. We went over to Tybee Island to tour Light house & Ft. Pulaski. We love this park and we'll be back - I'm sure! Site #14
A little expensive for this part, since nothing to do here; but relax... It is on the Edisto River, which is why we came anyway - to canoe. Which we did using the livery across the way to shuttle us 10 miles up river ($30 total, with YOUR own canoe) or you can rent theirs. Our site was a pull thru. All areas are well shaded. If you go - take ALL your supplies - nearest town is 10 miles away. This CG is about 10 miles east of I-95 and very easy to get too. Restrooms were clean. Small 1/2 mile hiking trail. Not much for kids to do except for a small play area up near ranger station. We would go again if we were just canoeing.
The view on the waterfront was beautiful. You can dry camp or use W&E. We did not use bathhouse-so no review for that. Our site was large and well shaded. We canoed on the lake. Lots of people fishing from their boats and from shore. Also lots of skiers and people on their ski-doos. We had a great time. We would love to go back. Take your supplies though - as it is a ways to get anything you might need! Great place - we'll definitely go again!
We hiked the trails here. The sites are large and lots of trees. We were on a stream side -wonderful to listen to when resting. We hiked many waterfalls in the area. Showers clean. Rangers helpful. Lots to do in the area. Beautiful mountains. Will definitely go back! We were in site 57. Next time we'll get site #59. --latter was a pull through--
Sites are usual type Florida sites, scrub jay for trees and some shade. The entrance is a little right for larger rigs, ours was okay to get into. We were in site #13. Our rig was 25 ft in length. Springs are great. We also canoed here, they have rentals. Grocery store in park is minimal in size but has some necessities. Other grocery shopping is probably 2 miles down the road. We would stay here again to go in the springs.
Love this park. We loved the springs for swimming and snorkeling. We TRIED to canoe but too many boats out there. Large party boats, speed boats, bass boats and our little canoe was about to be tipped over. Nice to bike ride and nice to just veg out. We will definitely go again!
Loved our site (#45) large and well shaded. Across road from bath house, NO lights in my windows! We canoed the river. Swam/snorkled in the springs. Hiked the many trails. We saw deer and squirrels. I love this campground. We have been here twice and can't wait to go back again.
We loved this park. It has a HUGE pool, canoe rental, bike rental. Mountain bike trails, several, and hiking trails, several! We did NOT canoe from this CG although you can. We launched elsewhere and the scenery is just beautiful. It has 2 separate areas, one for pets and one for no pets. We will definitely go back again. Clean bathhouses, nice camp hosts, fire rings and we had a great shaded site. There is a rec room also. We will definitely go back again.
The campground itself is typical of most state parks. Not a resort type place at all. We road our bikes around there, rented a canoe for the 'three hour tour' and fished from the banks of the pier. Also there is a convenient small store there, 2 areas for kids to play at. Bath houses/shower were clean. We went when there were not too many skeeters; and the few that were there did not bother us as we sipped cocoa in front or the fire. We had a great time and we'll definitely go back.
The only reason I rate this State Park a 9 is due to the damage of the hurricanes last year which is WHY there are NO trees in the front CG area. The area was totally destroyed by the hurricanes last year. The back campground near the river is still in perfect condition looks as if hurricanes never touched it. The cabins are in perfect shape also. Still canoeing within the park, great hiking and biking trails. It is unfortunate for the front CG damage, but this will be a beautiful park again when the trees return. A lot of restoration has been done by the planting of new trees.
First time here. Beautiful park. Has a museum and bell tower which plays Stephen Foster songs. You can rent canoes just outside park & we did for a 9 mile trip. About $35 for a couple-you can take your dog also! We road bikes allover, had washer/dryer if needed at bathhouse. Has a gift shop and people who show you how to make items from back in the day. I bought a walking stick while there as it was a few days before the Folk Festival! (Too bad we didn't know it was coming) We will definitely go back. Large sites, some up to 100' deep. Level, fire rings, we had no bugs but lots of fire flies at night. It was a pleasure to be in such a beautiful state park. Also has a small diner on the premises which is not open every day though. We will definitely go back. It is definitely a 10!
First time here, we loved this park. Beach is about 1/2 mile away, but within the park itself. We road all the off road biking trails as well as paved road all over the place. We had an end site that was near the lake, and you can launch your canoe/kayak from many places in the park. You can rent peddle boats there also. Kids have a play area. Has a little grocery store and an ice cream shop right at the campground. Our little doggie loved the beach as dogs ARE allowed on the beach. We had a great time. Will go back.
First time here; road to campground is paved, but once you turn off to your loop - all dirt and pot holes - ok for us as it wasn't raining but must be a mud pie if it does. We rented a canoe at park, and also toured the caverns and this was nice. Our site was plenty wide and mostly level, not really a problem. The problem was all the mosquitoes - they just about carried us away. We were booked for 2 nights but only stayed one. They have a swimming 'hole' with a nice picnic area. And I would have rated this park higher than a six had it not been for all the mosquitoes that just drove us away. Oh yeah, bathrooms are air-conditioned in summer & heated in the winter - never saw this at a state park here in Fla before!
First time at this place and we loved it. We will definitely go back. Large, level sites. We had a waterfront site. You can launch a kayak from your own site or fish there. We were in the pet loop. I saw no raccoons only a few squirrels here and there. The beach is a 2 mile bike ride away. Doggie park and doggie beach available also. Tour the Fort while there. We will definitely go back.
Clean campground, staff very friendly. We stayed here 4 nights. We had full hook up but they parked us next to a wall that backed up to a strip mall. Dumpsters dumped daily about 6AM. US 301 is about 100 yards from our site & semi's go by ALL night. The train is about 1/2 mile away and it blows its whistle about every two hours. Our site was on the smaller side, the concrete pad did not line up with our door or the awning & you couldn't manipulate it to do so because of the short driveway space and if you try to park at an angle because you have a longer vehicle (which luckily we didn't) the KOA police run out and jump allover you. Staff helpful and friendly - they are just all up in your business every second questioning your every move! We stayed here in a 21 ft hybrid in March 2005.
Previous comments about KOA not using a licensed electrician need to be corrected whereas the State of Florida does NOT require licensing of electricians. They did away with that a few years ago. That is why you sometimes get substandard services. My husband is an electricin in the union and that is how I know this.
