This is a great campground for an overnight visit or a couple of days. I would not want to make it a destination for an extended vacation but it is still a great place. There aren't any amenities available. It is a short drive to Raleigh or points south. We were here because we needed to do some unpacking and cleaning and this campground fit the bill perfectly for that. The owner is a very nice gentleman who has put a lot into this place. There are lots of permanent sites that are not bad to look at. It is very quiet here also. The workampers who are helping him are very nice folks. They make several rounds a day picking up trash. The sites are gravel and level. They are wide and long. There isn't any shade so it could potentially be hot in the dead of summer. We will be back again.
The nightly rate reflects my KOA discount. We stopped here for an overnight stop. We had had some water issues and were in need of a fan. The staff was more than willing to loan us a fan and the owner even came by and loaned us hers. Check in was easy and the office staff was very friendly. Campground is a work in progress but after having a conversation with the owner, who previously owned the Fayetteville NC KOA, we know that they will soon have it spotless. We had a pull through site that was level. We will definitely be back.
What a wonderful campground. The location was great for sightseeing in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlingburg area. The owner was very accommodating when making reservations over the phone as we needed a cabin for relatives. The concrete pad was fairly level and nice. We had a stream-side site and the cabin was one of the nicest we have ever seen. Did not use their wireless.
Great people here to work with when making reservations as I needed a cabin also. They were very understanding. The sites are very close together and short, but the pad was fairly level. The pool area was nice. The cabin was very nice and clean, and the wireless worked good. A great location for access to sightseeing in Asheville.
Nice get-away place for us: close to home. Check-in was painless and smooth. The office and store is a little outdated. Directions to campground needs to be more specific for access from Hwy 264 as our Garmin did not recognize there was a left turn lane exit for the campground. Campground owners seem to be striving to make it look nice and are cleaning it up. Traffic noise was not an issue although the park is close to major road. The Wi-Fi worked good. The pool area looks nice but we did not use it. The sites are a little unlevel but manageable. Think we may come back again.
What a well kept secret! This is an overnight park only! I really want to make that clear. The owner is very nice and bent over backwards to help us. He is working diligently to make more sites available. He even has an RV repair service available on site. (No engine work though.) There is a nice dumping station. This location is close to Greenville and ECU for parents that want to bring their children for visits as prospective students or for someone who wants hook ups when attending a Pirate Game. There are no shower or bathroom facilities so you have to be self contained. Nice shade trees and lots of grass. It is in a great location about 1 mile off of HWY 264 East of Greenville. Directions on his website are very accurate. We will definitely be back to visit.
Great spot for an overnight stay. Sites are small and limited number of long pull thrus. Owners are obviously trying to make it better. Pool not open when we were there because of heavy rains in prior days.
Very nice place for an overnight spot or just to relax for a few days. Management was extremely nice and accommodating. Grounds were well kept, showers and rest rooms were spotless. Great place for pets also. We will definitely return if in the area again.
The only reason I am not giving them a 10 this year is due to the golf carts that are in this campground. Big mistake. I saw grown adults driving irresponsibly, flying over speed bumps with small children in the back. They need to enforce the quiet hours too. Neighbors were loud and noisy after midnight. The sunsets were gorgeous this year as usual. The owners need to spend some money updating some of the roads. Drainage still could be an issue if there are large amounts of rain. Verizon wireless card worked fantastic from our campsite. Did not use their WiFi this year. Definitely going back next year! Love this place. This is not an oceanfront campground but it is on the Chesapeake Bay with waterfront sites.
I am going to have to give this park a mediocre rating based on several factors. For one thing, it is definitely in a "hole" as far as satellite TV, or regular TV is concerned. We were given Site #85 in the shade, which was ok since we were only going to be there one night. But the cable TV reception was lousy and almost unwatchable. The office staff came to the site, examined it and said, "it is what it is". No other means was available to us for watching TV. WiFi was mediocre too. On the other hand, the pool looked nice. The office has been remodeled and the lake was nice too. They need to update the shaded sites and make them more level. The office staff was friendly and check in was sufficient.
This campground is waterfront on the Chesapeake Bay. It is one of the most beautiful and fun campgrounds on the East Coast in our opinion. We have been camping at Cherrystone for 15 years. They now have wifi at 3 hotspots in the campground. It is a fun place for adults and kids. They have great entertainment nightly in season. Great place to ride bikes. New piers are in place now and they are very nice. I can't say enough good things about Cherrystone. Looking forward to going back.
This is an excellent place to visit, whether for a weekend or just an overnight stopover. The owner's are working very hard to make this a good place. We were very impressed and after camping for 30+ years, this is something I can state very emphatically. Sure there have been statements about road noise, but we people watch, so watching for RV's became a game. The train whistle's were nice. It is reassuring to know that this form of transportation still exist. All in all, we highly recommend this place.
We enjoyed our stay. We had a large, very private campsite. Did not use the bath house but did use our bikes for bike riding. It was a great place to stay the weekend. We did not have waterfront, but would highly recommend this place to anyone.
This is a great campground whether overnighting or for an extended vacation. It is conveniently located for a day trip to Morehead, Beaufort or Atlantic Beach. There is also a lot to do in New Bern itself. The campground itself is in excellent condition with packed gravel for the roads and sites. Patio sites are available with a nice paved patio, swing, table and chairs and a fire pit. The big rig sites are long and level with a fire pit. There are nice water view sites for tents that have water and electric with a nice patio with a picnic table with an umbrella! What a refreshing find. The view from the water is to die for. It has a fantastic sunset view and also a pier with limited boat slips available. We wish to go back very soon and also visit for a lot of trips. Wish we had found it sooner. Did not visit the bathhouse but there is a small cabin with a treadmill and exercise bike for those who wish to work out. The campground store is new with limited groceries and gifts available. Thanks for a great and memorable weekend.
The only complaints I have about this campground is the dust that the is created here by the unpaved roads and the fact that the wireless internet is hard to connect to in the big rig section and that it cost $$$. These campgrounds need to negotiate with Linkspot for fees and add it their nightly rates. We had a great time here and most probably will come back again as it is a great location for family reason's. They were undergoing construction while here but I am really glad to see this happening. Access from I-81 is fantastic. Great overnight spot or good for several days. Not too bad a place. Great shopping in Hagerstown if needed. C&O Canal access is great for biking.
This campground is the best! We have been coming here for the last 14 years. We have grown in size in our camping unit and this year had to camp with the "big guys" but I will say that our experience here is the same. We love this place! We will continue to come here forever! The only things they do not have that the bigger places have is wifi and cable. But we have found a way around that. The beautiful sunsets on the water more than make up for this loss. They have made more upgrades to it since last year. Don't take my place! We love it here!
I will have to say we stayed here with some trepidation. We had read the bad reviews but since Woodalls gave it a great rating we thought the reviewer must be wrong. What a mistake that was! This is the worst campground we have ever stayed in. We have been camping for 30 some years and this is undoubtedly the worst ever. The streets in the campground were full of ruts, the sites are poorly marked, street lamps on trees that had stopped working and new ones put up without taking the old down. This list could go on. We did not use the pool but observed cracking concrete around it. The owners had made a pathetic attempt at making a "pad" under the picnic table with pea gravel and landscape timbers that was not attached to anything and rolled around. We made our plans based on the Smith Island Cruise availability from this campground, but they cancelled the tuesday trip due on monday to lack of participation and high fuel prices. So we went to Tangier instead from a Reedville marina. We will never go back to this place. I wish that KOA would check this campground. It gives KOA a bad name.
We stay at a lot of KOA's. This campground by far is the best yet. The sites are long and gravel. They have plenty of room for slide outs and our 40ft MH. Access is good from I-95. If you arrive after hours, it is very easy to get to campsite. They even mark your site with a "cone". They even have patio sites available. Wi-fi is great. We will stay here again I am sure.
This is an excellent resort. I would not classify it as a campground. We have stayed here a lot for several years and in various rv's. We now have a 40 ft MH and find it to be a very desirable place to go. We are glad that the golf cart situation here is not out of control. Sites are long and wide enough for slide outs. The only downside is that they are way too expensive during peak season. Wi-fi is not free and it should be with the high campsite fees. We will still continue to visit here but during off season.
We stay at a lot of KOA's. We liked this park except for a few things. The roads need to be paved. They are just gravel and dirt. They are washed out in places. The campground needs to be updated. Site was adequate for our 40 foot MH. Access from Boone was ok. Not far from major attractions so as a homebase it worked. Wifi was pathetic. Could not access from campsite. There are a lot of permanent sites but they are neat and clean. We enjoyed and would come back again.
We have camped here several times this season (2005). We did not find the rangers searching through the garbage cans like I have read in some of the previous post. It is a nice campground with large shaded and private sites. A lot of them have water and electric. They have a dump station. The bathhouses could use some updating in the loop we stayed in. We only used the showers.
