We stayed here again...this time with our Trail-Liter instead of a popup. Big difference. The shower situation wasn't that big of a deal, since we had our own. The trails were nice, in a wooded area. Our eight-year-old loved the golf course and wanted to play all the time. This is one of those places where only a few people know about it, but the ones who do flock together and like to have a good time. Both times we've been here there have been a couple of large groups who like to drink beer and have big campfires. Still, though, we've made our reservations for Memorial and Labor Days, so we must really like it there!

Our stay here was a mixed bag. The facilities were awesome and well-maintained. Sites were level and easy to get situated in. We enjoyed a nice little cement "patio", perfectly fit with our awning. The kids loved frisbee, golf and the clean pool. Also, it was nice and quiet here. WiFi was impeccable. Plenty of attractions in the area. However, the pool has a "No diapers of ANY kind" rule. I took this to assume no swim diapers as well, which poses a big problem for families of non-potty trained children. Also, the owners were a bit irked when we hadn't pre-registered our guests...but we didn't know exactly how many there would be. They made our guests park up front and get visitor stickers...and they had to be gone by nine pm. Also, no clothesline allowed and no parking on the grass. So, basically lots of rules with the good times.

First off, positives. Pool was nice and kid-friendly, mini-golf was fun and arcade was a neat touch. Our spot was shaded and level and easy to access. The playground was also a large sandy area. Lots of grass and space with the sites. However, we were staying at a site that was 75 yards from I-80, so we heard semi-trucks and other traffic all day AND all night long. It didn't bother our sleeping much, but it was a pain during the day when we tried to have conversations outdoors. Also, the regulars (seasonal people) zipped around the place in their golf carts, so while I didn't have to worry much about vehicle traffic, I still had to be wary of golf carts. Finally, I thought I was getting a steal at $25/night with all the great amenities, but it turned out we had to pay $1/person for pool use (4 and under were free) and $1.50/person for mini-golf (4 and under also free)...ultimately, the great deal turned out to be average. Also, the pool and mini-golf areas don't open until 1 pm, but that is not clearly indicated. Bottom line, we probably won't weekend camp here again, and that's only because of how close it is to the Interstate, but I'd consider an overnight stay.

Very nicely maintained, beautiful campground. The kids really enjoyed the pool and the basketball hoop, but we never did get around to going down to the rec hall. Campground staff was super nice and helpful. Best part: it's 10 minutes away from major shopping area. That may not be important to some folks, but it is when you forget your three-year-old's swim diapers at home. However, sites were very close. We did not use our awning because of this. Some of the sites were absolutely tiny, and we were informed that they were used only when there was overflow. Also, not every site had its own fire pit, we lucked out and were camped next to a teeny site that did have one and the staff said we could just use that one. Sites were gravel, but lots of grassy areas around otherwise. In addition, the fee we paid did not include extra people. So: the $33 paid for the husband and I, but not for our eight- and six-year-old (three-year-old was free). We paid $2/night per kid, and it was the same with my parents, who came up to spend the night. Got to be a pretty pricey stay, actually.

So many good things here. Neat playground, a nine-hole, par-three golf course (primitive, but still fun), and a 7:30 wagon ride at night. Also a great plus: nice-sized lots, full hookups, and a beautiful scenic view of the Des Moines River (and the DM metropolis in the distance). However, for the entire campground, there was only one restroom...included both shower and toilet, so you'd have to wait to relieve yourself if someone was taking a shower. Lines could get long, especially in mornings and evenings. This wouldn't be a problem for a travel trailer on up. This place was also a little off the beaten path...but was quiet! Owners were extremely visible and friendly. All in all, we'll stay here again.

A nice, well-supervised park. Playground was on the small side, but enough for little ones. Showers were clean and water was warm! Our site was within decent walking distance of playground and showers, but same cannot be said for many other sites at the campground. The No Extra Vehicle thing is a bit inconvenient, but nothing that totally took away from the nice, quiet experience we had here.
