We made reservations at this park to see some family members that stay there for a couple weeks each summer, our stay was three nights. Upon arrival the first thing you notice is that the park is older and shows its age somewhat. The majority of the sights are narrow in width and seem to have been layed out before the advent of the slideout rooms that most rigs have today. Our neighbors awning was inches from touching our slideout. There is no room between sites to set up a table and grill or anything that most campers would use to create there own space. If you wanted to do this it had to be done in front of the rig as the driveway was long and concrete There are many permanent residents and transient residents who leave their rigs parked all season and some possibly all year. Many of the permanent residents do not maintain there spaces to what I would consider an acceptable condition. The manager, who I believe was the owner as well, seemed to be indifferent to any problems or concerns that were brought to his attention. I say that this park is family friendly because there were several children around, but the layout does not create the safest environment for riding bicycles nor is there a playground. The one plus I can say about this park was that it was in the middle of town and offered easy access to most of the attractions on the island. If you are looking for an overnight stay this place would be suitable, but if you are looking for better amenities and better beach access for an extended stay, there are better choices that meet those criteria.

This park has had reviews in the past and was listed as being in Hempstead, TX. although it is close, it has a Waller address. About 2 years ago new owners took over and have made drastic improvements. There is a waterpark, fishing lake, hayrides, and various other planned avtivities for kids. They have a wide range of sites to accommodate everything from large motorhomes to tents as well as cabin rentals. There are still some improvements to be made like additional shower and bathroom facilities and a renovation of the playground and mini golf course. The RV sites are in need of better definition as they are grass and dirt and not well defined and can create problems getting level. All in all this is a great place for kids and the staff is friendly for the most part. I would have applied a better rating if the sites had been better arranged.

After leaving another RV Park in the area that we were very unhappy with we found Potters Creek which is operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. This park appears to have very new equipment and is the best groomed and maintained park we have ever stayed in. The sites are large and the pads are paved and very level. It is very family friendly and Canyon Lake is a beautiful lake. The deer are plentiful and seem very tame as they would wander close to human inhabited areas. I would have rated this park a 10, but two things kept me from doing that. First, they have no sites with sewer hookups and second, they do not take reservations at this time which can be difficult if you are travelling a long distance. We were told that reservations should soon be availble. Not all of the 124 sites are RV sites, some are tent sites. Potter Creek will be added to my alltime favorite list.

After reading reviews of this RV Park we decided to stay here and made a reservation for 3 nights. After arriving we soon learned that the website made this park appear nicer that what it really turned out to be. The management was very friendly and helpfull, but they seem to be lacking when it comes to enforcing the rules on those that are permanent residents. The area around the spaces of the permanent residents was messy and many of the rigs were in disrepair. We had are two young children with us and arrived around 6PM and by the time we were finished setting up around 7PM the kids wanted to play. Although this is described as a family park we felt as though the atmosphere dictated that at this early hour it was quiet time and the kids should be kept inside. Additionally, the park was small and difficult to manuever around. With or without children there are much better choices in the area.
