This is a conveniently located campground for all the Door County area. Most sites are very heavily wooded and the access roads are very tight especially for larger rigs. We were originally given a site that our unit would not have begun to fit into. We went back to the office and they put us into a W/E site only, but it was large enough for our 42' motorhome. The owner was able to find us another site about 4 days later that had W/E/S without charging us extra. There appeared to be lots of activities for the kids. Not very many sites for larger rigs. Need to be certain when reserving to ensure they have a good spot available for a big rig. We would camp here again. We camped in a 42' motorhome.
We were here near the end of the season, so many of the park ammenities were not operating. The park access from the highway is good and pretty well marked. The park roads are not as well marked and the roads are fairly potholed and windy, so we were a bit concerned we wouldn't find our site without a lot of driving around. The sites are long but fairly narrow and many are not very level. We wound up having to park very close to one side to get level enough to use our jacks. Had to trim some of the nearby trees/shrubs and the overhead trees dragged on the roof. Probably would not camp here again as we saw some other campgrounds in Lake George that looked more inviting.
As noted in other reviews, this park is clean, well maintained, has friendly staff and good access from the highway. The roads and sites are all dirt and gravel and with the frequent high winds in NM, we found a lots of blowing dust. The park is about 45 minutes from Carlsbad Caverns and about 20 minutes from Artesia, NM. It is expensive, but would probably stay here again.
Camped at La Vedara for only one night, but the campground was clean, sites long and level, and the owner very friendly and helpful. Good access and egress. As noted in other review, 100 amp was available. The campground has a great store. This is a great place for a short/overnight stay. We would stay here again.
Park is convenient to all 1000 Island attractions. Park owners very friendly and helpful. Access is quite narrow and tight. Spaces are quite unlevel and we had to use several boards to get our unit even close to level. Wifi signal was good but had trouble connecting. Camped here 4 days Sept 2012. Rate $32.40.
I agree with all the previous comments about the campground staff and the amenities. However, do not stay here unless you are stone deaf! The traffic noise from I-30 is loud, constant and ran all night. It was compounded by the frequent trains that all blew their horn at least 4 times each for about 5 seconds each blast. Seemed like the trains went through about every half hour. We even tried to sleep with noise cancelling head phones on and they couldn't drown out the trains and traffic. Otherwise this would be a great park.
