Twin Lakes is a Corp of Engineers campground. It is one of the most beautiful campgrounds in the area. It is located on Lake Hartwell and the views are fantastic. Lots of waterfront sites to chose from and all shaded and woody. The only reason I give it a 9 is the beach is mucky. You feel like you are walking in a duck pond which feels gross. Other than that, the campground is very clean, large, and there is lots of wildlife. The sites are large and level with very nice rings, grills, and tables. Even though the campground was pretty full, it is less social because you are spread out. It was much more private than other campgrounds we have visited. All in all, it was great and we will definitely visit again.
Devils Fork is a beautiful campground located on Lake Jocassee. It is relatively small and was full during our stay. Lots and lots of kids. The roads are very tight to maneuver through with a large camper. The sites are wooded and shady and most are level. It is one of the more social campgrounds we have visited. I couldn't step outside without speaking to someone. That may put some people off, but I guess it depends on the experience you want in camping. We had fun. Devils Fork has two trails and is located near waterfalls so plenty to do. The boat ramp is not within the camp area but is rather large. Overall, it is a great campground and very well maintained.
We chose High Falls County Park as our "shake down" trip with our new camper. What a great choice! It is located on Lake Keowee which is gorgeous. The park features a beautiful, sandy beach with shade, a boat ramp in the park, ball field, tennis courts, basketball courts, horseshoes, putt-putt, and multiple picnic areas and shelters. The sites are first-come-first serve - no reservation, which made me a little nervous but there were plenty of sites even though it was the week of July 4th! There are waterfront sites which are a little tighter than the others. The non-waterfront sites are bigger and big-rig friendly. The park and facilities are immaculate too. The workers and the park hosts were very friendly without being over-bearing. This is a great park for kids and families.
