The park was spotless. Sites can be a little tight. Some are set in trees and rather private while others are merely gravel pads parallel to the park "streets". It was great for us as we used it merely as a place to stay at night while we were doing other things in the area. VERY QUIET at night. I only gave it an 8 based on the tight quarters in the sites. If there was another 5 feet or so between spaces I would rate it a 10. Electrical equipment appears to be realtively new so no power issues. Water tasted great.
This is a National Park Campground. It is suffering from overall poor maintenance. The best campsites for RV's have been taken by the "Hosts". Every aspect of the CG other than road surface and toilets has been neglected. An obvious victim of Budget Cutting. The toilets are Pit-type and you can smell them from a long way off. Even the Gate Shack looks like it has seen better days. I went to this CG 20 years ago and it had a well maintained look. During the Summer, the Staff would even show movies with an environmental theme. Unless you have a Tent Trailer, Tent, or small Van there are probably no more than 5-6 sites that will accommodate an RV over 14'. The area is beautiful and it is a shame that the Campground doesn't match.
Best advice would be to "Keep on Driving"! Arrogant Owner/Host, poorly maintained sites, next door to the train tracks. Very noisy. Next time through Evanston I will stay at a highway rest stop before I pay to stay here.
This is definitely a place to stop while visiting the Casino. There is nothing else to do here. The sites are crowded and the check-in process is rather loose. Reservations are highly recommended. If you arrive later in the day, people will attempt to talk their way into your site with the security guard, who is also the "registration agent". I would recommend it only for those that are visiting the casino. For "Parking Lot" boondockers, there is a large overflow area for RV's where one could stay the night for free.
Park was so noisy I moved after first night. It felt like I was parked alongside the freeway. Wait, I was. My site was only 200' away from the northbound lanes of I-25. I recommend this park only to the hard of hearing. Also a lot of "seasonals" have taken the sites back in the trees where the sound levels don't hurt as much. Office is closed on Sunday. It is serve yourself for site selection if you arrive on Sunday but the only sites they seem to make available are "freeway" sites. My rating is based solely on the Freeway noise. The facilities are otherwise ok.
Beautiful Campground. Quiet, Peaceful, and relaxing. Far enough from "civilization" to make the road outside almost deserted thus no traffic noise at night. Most helpful staff with well maintained facilities. We will stay there again when in the area.
This is a great park. Staff was more than helpful. Sites were close but yet wide enough to put out awning without crowding neighbor. Every site has fire-pit. Tables were freshly painted (for the season) and clean instead of weathered and covered with bird droppings like is often the norm. I would stay there again as well as recommend for others.
Campground was barely OK in my opinion. Maintenance has been neglected. Garbage disposal consisted of a dump trailer (landscaper style) that smelled like it hadn't been emptied for a month. Commercial dumpster was roped off with instructions to use trailer (owned by the park). Site assigned was too small for my travel trailer. Clerk had no clue as to the layout of the park. There are 5 or 6 spaces that have view of the bay. Rent for premium price. Rest of park is so-so.
Campground is not spectacular although the walk through the tent area is nice. Redwoods that form a tight canopy that blocks out the sky. Not a bad stopover although the RV sites could use a little better maintenance.
This park is better described as a Parking Lot! Lots of spaces but less than half are paved. The remainder are gravel. The "riverside" spaces are either sloped badly requiring some creative leveling or the front of the RV sits in the service road. This KOA is clearly there to serve the Casino. No Cable TV and over the air TV is fuzzy at best.
