The Naval flights have been discussed and can be pretty loud at times. We had a supersite, and it was very nice, level, and clean. The staff was very polite and helpful. The dog park is huge and clean, however, our German Shepard escaped when we weren't looking. My wife was reading while the dogs exercised, and we think the Shepard opened a gate with her nose. The staff was very helpful catching her and getting her back to us. Overall, a nice place.
This park is one of the original CCC parks in Virginia. It is quite large and has three CGs. CGs "B" and "C" are better suited to tenters, pop-ups, and small campers. There are W/E sites in each CG but also many primitive sites. CG "A" is where you should go if you have a larger rig. Even this CG is very tight to get around and some of the sites are very difficult to enter or leave. While we were there, the inch worms were in season and they were very aggravating so beware in early May. It was very quiet and the CG was almost deserted during the week. As with most Virginia state parks this one is nice and the staff is great.
Very nice park with a great staff. It was early in the season, so many of the sites were closed. There are not very many sites that will handle big rigs, so get there early to get the best sites. The Orange sites are waterfront on the lake and several have excellent views. There is not much in the surrounding area, but this is a great park if you are a boater. There are two boat ramps and a concession that rents pontoon boats. While we did not use a cottage, they appear to be very nice.
I stayed here for two months so the rate is the monthly rate. As noted the sites are a little tight but long and most are level. Occasionally you get a slight sewer smell if the wind is from the north but not very often. Nice heated pool, two laundries, very nice club house with individual bath rooms. The weekend dinners and entertainment are very nice at a reasonable price. Mostly snowbirds that were very friendly. Enjoyed our stay.
I had the good fortune to get one of the best sites in the park (#42), a level, long pull through with plenty of room. It does appear most of the sites are close together and tight to access. The CG is a long distance from the road so noise was not an issue. Beautiful lake and a clean CG. The staff was super nice and accommodating.
As noted the 30 amp pull throughs were level side to side but required unhooking to level front to back. The road in and out requires some attention particularly in the dark as you appear to be heading down the entrance ramp to the interstate. OK for an overnight.
We haven't been here for several years. They have added some paving on some of the steep grades. The owners are great and very much involved. I had one of the best sites in the park. This a good park for stopovers and short stays.
Not much I can add. The place was neat and clean, the folks in the office were very nice and helpful, easy access to the interstate. We planned to stay two nights and liked the campground so much we stayed two extra nights. Nice place.
A nice state park with a great fishing pier, a nice swim beach, good trails and a competent, pleasant staff. The campground is one of very few and may be the only VA state park with sewer hookups and cable TV. Unlike many Virginia State Parks, the camp sites for RVs are close together and not very private and there is almost no shade. The tent area is much better shaded although the sites are still close together. There is a lot to do in the park but not much close by outside the park. Because it attracts a lot of boaters and fishermen make reservations particularly on the weekends.
A very nice state park with spacious sites and a state of the art bath house. Verizon cell service is non-existent and the roads into the CG are very steep and winding. The staff was friendly and helpful. Sites are fairly level and well laid out but there is very little shade as most of the trees were removed during construction of the CG.
This place has great customer service. When I called with questions the lady on the phone spent all the time I needed to get information. When I arrived check-in was quick and easy. Unfortunately I had to leave early due to a death in the family and when we went in to inform the office they refunded the unused portion of our money...something just about unheard of. The sites are decent size, the indoor pool was very nice and the staff was great.
Been a while since we have been here and they have added a few things, like a waterpark and waterslides. We had a FHU site (U113) on the hill, basically a semi-graveled spot in a field with hookups. For what we got the price is very high. In addition there is an additional charge for just about everything you do except breathe. With three grandsons along it cost $160 for two nights. We had a nice time, the young people at the desk were very nice and helpful, but the price will probably keep us from coming again.
Stopped here while taking the scenic route through central PA. The CG is pretty tight with lots of seasonals parking partly in the roads. Pool was good, our site (77) was grass, fairly wide and deep and didn't take too much to level. Train tracks about 400 yards away. Route into the CG is through an older town with narrow streets. It was OK for an overnight but doubt we would return.
The park is very convenient to I-190 and Niagara Falls. Sites are level, a reasonable distance apart and easy to access with a gravel pad, a fire ring, and a picnic table. The dump station is easy to access as you leave. There is a nice pool, a lake with two zip lines (which were a big hit with the grandchildren), and kayak and canoe rentals. The price is reasonable considering the proximity to the Falls. We found the staff to be very nice. This is a nice, almost new park so the amenities were in great condition.
As noted previously, A Loop is better suited for smaller rigs, tents, and PUPs. B Loop has very long, level (at least side to side), paved sites with extra large tent pads. The loop was very easy to get around and there is a very nice bath house near the back side of the loop. The swimming pool is huge with plenty of benchs for tanning. The camp store has basic food stuffs and tourist items. Like most Virginia State Parks, this one won't disappoint. The rate includes a $5 pet fee.
We used this CG as an overnight while visiting the Appomattox National Park. I could not get the GPS to find the address and the entrance is poorly marked, just a double sided sign. The entrance is over a very high RR crossing (so high it caught and bent one of our stabilizers) so exercise caution. The entrance road is full of potholes so drive slowly. The transient area is ok, nice pull throughs with convenient hookups and as we were here during the week it was quiet. Rate shown is PPA good for one night only. CG is ok for a overnight stop.
This a very nice state park, clean and well kept with well defined trails, a marina, and a very nice lakefront swimming area. The CG has four sections, three with no hookups and section D, where we stayed with W/E. As noted before, this section is a little "commercial" like than most of Virginia's parks but the sites were a reasonable distance apart, fairly level, clean, and the hookups were conveniently located. If you are planning to stay on a summer weekend I strongly suggest you make reservations. The state of VA insists on charging $5 per night per pet (with a $15 per pet maximum) so our rate reflects the site plus pet charge. Overall, a very nice state park.
The pull throughs are paved and are adequate for a 30' TT and tow vehicle. It was very easy to level both side to side and front to back. It was hot when we arrived but there was a nice breeze all night with cool temps. It was buggy sitting outside so take the insect repellent. The only place for potable water is at the dump station.
With a 30' Travel trailer we had to search for a site big enough to take us and this park was almost empty. The pull through site was really a wide spot in the road and we were uncomfortably close to what little traffic there was. The site was level side to side but a little steep back to front. We were in site B103. Also the roads through the campground are very narrow. Not a place for big rigs.
Like most of Virginia's State Parks, this one is great. The campground is about five years old and was very well laid out with easy to access level sites. Lots of eagles and wildlife to enjoy, miles of hiking and biking trails. The staff is very attentive and interested in making your park visit enjoyable.
I used this park for an overnight. From northbound I-85 the roads are a little confusing and difficult to manage. The park was good for an overnight, close to the interstate but far enough away to be quiet. The staff was helpful and efficient, the site was fairly level and the hookups were convenient. Decent cable TV which I understand is new, and good Wi-Fi. I would use this park again if passing through.
I stayed two months so the nightly rate is actually the month rate. Electricity was extra at eleven cents per KW. The owners and staff were very nice and always available. The have bluegrass bands twice a week in the winter. The sites in the main area are very spacious and landscaped, there is a nice indoor pool and hot tub, a small but well maintained laundry, and two very nice bathrooms. The train rides are good. Only critical point is the management seems a little slow to correct problems. It was a good snowbird park and I would return.
We used this park as an overnight on our way south. We called the lady, gave our KOA number, everything was ready when we arrived, got escorted to the site. The place was clean, the sites easy to access and the park is less than a mile from the interstate. All the sites are pull thru which makes it easy to overnight without unhooking.
A nice KOA, just off the Interstate, with great staff. We had a good, level pull through site with FHU. Had free waffles for breakfast. There is a tight turn at the far end of the park, but overall a good place. We would return again when passing through.
We stayed a week to tour the area. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our site was in the seasonal area, the site was level and the hookups were convenient. Good cable TV, Wi-Fi was very spotty. The laundry was cramped and most of the dryers were out of order the entire week. The flea market was interesting and within walking distance. Rate was Passport American. Okay but we would probably find a park with more amenities next time.
We used this park for an overnight while visiting friends in the area, it was OK for that but I wouldn't use it for an extended stay. The office is not always open and it took repeated attempts to get hold of the manager. Also note THERE IS NO SIGN so the place is a bit hard to find.
We stayed three days while touring the area. Nice breaches and a lot to see in Savannah, we had a good time. The CG was very tight, sites are very close together and maneuvering through the park is not easy. Transients are sited along the street so there is some traffic noise. Wi-Fi is spotty, works sometimes but not always. The staff was great, helpful with things to see and do. A bit on the pricey side but it is a resort area. We would stay here again.
Great place for an overnight while viewing the memorial. The staff was very nice and the memorial was very impressive. Bring some leveling blocks. The lady at the desk said the RV sites were an after thought, and they are not too level.
The sites were a little tight, typical KOA. The staff was great, enjoyed talking to them. There is a lot to do in and around the CG. I was disappointed our site faced a different direction than I expected. The GC enjoyed the arts and crafts, we all enjoyed the movie. We also rented a lodge for our daughter and her family, we stayed seven nights and except for the fact it rained every day (nothing the CG can do about that), we had a great week.
This was a good CG close to Reading, PA. We stayed two nights in a large pull through site that was easy to level on and very spacious. There are a large number of seasonal and permanent residents, we met several of them that were very nice and accepting of us. Overall a good clean CG to visit.
The staff here was friendly and helpful and we stayed three nights. I had trouble with my tow vehicle and they went out of their way to help me find a repair shop. Our pull through site was fair. The utilities were strung out and not easy to hook to. This is more of a seasonally oriented CG although the seasonal residents were quite friendly. As there is not much else in the area, I guess we would stay here again if we are in the area.
We used this CG as an over night on our way north. While the CG was very nice I thought $62 with our KOA discount was very pricey. Our "premium" site was no better than most regular FHU sites and was a bit tight getting into. Because we were passing through we did not use any of the amenities, so that made the price even worse. The CG is a long way from the interstate. This is probably a better destination CG than an overnighter.
We stayed for an overnight on our way north. Our site was a W/E, pull through that was reasonably level and easy to get into and out of. The office staff was friendly and helpful. The hand dipped ice cream from the store was great. We would stay here again.
We camped here five years ago in a tent ,and I still would not want to do that again, but in the travel trailer it is much better. We had a FHU back in that appears to have been recently renovated. The site was level and sufficiently long enough for us. The hookups were located so we had no issues getting hooked up. There is still a lot of construction going on. We ran the AC or at least the fan all night and could not hear the interstate traffic unless we sat outside. Overall this campground is good for overnighting or as a place to stay while in the Richmond area. The rate was a KOA special...buy Friday night get Saturday free.
The park itself is very nice and the campground is located at the very back. We had a full hook up site that is listed as a pull thru. As you approach the site the hook ups are next to the road so you loop into the site with the back of your rig facing the road and the front is facing into the woods...a little unusual but it gives you a lot of privacy. Our TV and TT are 50 plus feet long and our site was a bit of a challenge to get into and out of. I was there to work a trade show and was busy so I did not get to enjoy all the park had to offer but overall I was very satisfied with this park and campground
This park is just that, a place to park, so from that standpoint it's good. We had a site next to the highway so we did get some road noise. The sites are pretty close together but large enough to open your awning, etc. When visiting the Richmond area this place is relatively convenient and we will use it again.
Wow, what a nice place. Huge sites, nicely kept grounds, nice pool and other amenities. Staff was great. We had a little trouble with ants but a few shots of spray took care of the problem. It's a little far from the hustle and bustle but it's very quiet and secluded. Really enjoyed our stay. We will return.
We stayed overnight while passing through. This place is a work in progress...if/when they get finished it should be good but it's at an exit with not much around. The sites seem a bit small for a "resort", there are no trees/shade so it was hot. The young man managing the place was very nice and helpful, but no pool, no rec room, not much completed so it's got a ways to go to be a resort. We would stay again if passing through.
We used this CG as an overnight stop. The clerk was friendly and the site was OK. Not much at this exit off of I-95, but the CG is close to the exit. The place was quiet and appeared clean and well kept. The store/office closes at 7 pm. We would use this CG again as an overnight but not as a destination.
There is no question this park is a work in progress. There about 35 sites ready to go and there is a lot of construction going on. The staff was very helpful and friendly. A staff member mentioned the back in sites that are close together and said they will not have any more that are close together. We are about 50' long and we looked kind of lost in our pull-through site, it was huge. The plans call for about 100 sites to be ready by Memorial day. Once the place is finished it should be very nice with lots of shade and wide, long, terraced sites. As this park is close to home I am looking forward to it's completion. On the downside, so far no bath houses, only a very small playground, no pool, no camp store, laundry, etc. I had to grade the rest rooms and showers so I put we didn't use them. There are none yet. We plan to return when the project gets a little further along.
There are full hook up sites available. I stayed here as part of a business trip. It is basically a place to park with hookups; there are no other amenities. When I was there a dog show was in progress in the Fair facilities and a new car show was leaving. I don't think there is an on site office. The grounds has a police force who collect fees and police the area. I called ahead and was told there was no problem getting a site, but the nights I was there the place was pretty full. You may want to check the activities calendar for the Fair. If I am working or have some activity in the Raleigh area I would stay there again.
The staff is friendly and helpful. I asked for and got a site on the stream as we did not need sewer for two nights. Our site (I picked it looking at the map and got what I asked for) was a little tight. I had to back in so the utilities were on the wrong side. As we have plenty hose and electric cable it was not a problem. The cable hookup (12 channels) was on the other side. Other than making us look like a train wreck of wires and hoses it worked fine. This is a very neat, peaceful place. We would rate it higher if there were not issues with the placement of the utilities.
This park has new owners (the old owner is still there helping out) who appear to be very guest oriented and helpful. The park is well kept up and clean, the staff friendly and helpful. Our granddaughter really enjoyed the hayride and penny hunt. The park is a little tight and some sites are a little uneven but not bad considering this part of the country is very hilly. A nice park close to our home, we will return.
The sites are constructed to be level and very usable. As stated in other reviews I didn't see a bad site there. The grounds are VERY well maintained, no a speck of trash; the pool had so few users it seemed like a private pool. While I didn't use the restrooms and showers, I checked them out while I was using the laundry and everything appeared spotless. I had very little contact with the staff other than at checkin which was smooth and efficient. Other than the pool and a small playground there is very little for kids to do but overall a very clean, quiet place with great views. Good place to kick back and relax.
I have previously reviewed this park, last time I stayed on the lakefront, this time I was up on the hill in a site that was shady but had no view. Please don't get me wrong, this park has a lot going for it, some things in the area to tour, a nice pool, decent sites, a pleasant staff, and reasonable rates for the area. But for the life of me I cannot understand how this park is rated by Woodals and TL as high as it is. The roads are difficult to negotiate, mostly gravel, and very dusty. Most of the sites are close together, some pull thrus are two sites so if your neighbor leaves before you, you have to back out. CG activities are good but certainly not fantastic. I went back and read my last review to see if I missed something but the best I can rate is an 8...a good park, but certainly not worthy of the ratings.
We used this park as an overnight on our way to Erie. The sites were a little close but not objectionable and took very little leveling. The Grandkids LOVED the jumping pillow and the pool. Over all a fairly nice park with a pleasant and helpful staff.
Nice park, quick check-in, level sites, two nice pools, efficient staff. We used this park as an overnight stop but we plan to return to the area to meet some friends and tour the area and plan to use this park again.
A VERY nice park...best KOA we've ever stayed in. Staff was great from check in to departure. We stayed five nights. We had some heavy rains but the grounds drained fairly well. There was a low spot in our site and when I asked if anything could be done to get rid of the water the staff was there in about 20 minutes with a frontend loader full of gravel, moved our stuff, spread the gravel, moved the stuff back. The pool was clean, the grounds were clean, the place really appears well cared for. If we go back to the area we would stay there again.
We stay here a couple of times a year. Great park with a very nice pool facility. We were in the newer section this time with huge level, sites. The roads throughout the CG have been repaved making a great improvement. The staff (mostly summer help) were very much in evidence during our stay.
We hadn't been here in a couple of years but it hasn't changed much. Lots to do for the kids, the park is clean and seems well managed. We had a "super site" this time, which this early in the year is the same price as a regular FHU site but you get a concrete patio. It's nice but the sites are very close together and the regular FHU sites look a little bigger. We will go back when the pool and water park are open.
We have stayed here several times over the last three years. The owners a quite helpful, I needed a piece of wood cut to make a repair and the owner helped out very willingly. They are making numerous improvements...paved a very steep road on the back side. We will continue to use this park.
This park is very clean and appears well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a lakefront site and it appears the lake has been cleaned up based on other postings. The sites are a bit tight and the roads are unpaved but we did not have a problem. The traffic flow is a bit strange...getting to the dump station takes some maneuvering around. Overall, a good place.
The grounds were clean and appeared well kept. We stayed in the upper area and were a good distance from the bathhouse. The children had a blast playing in the stream and at the playground. The store has mostly tourist items but there is a small grocery/convenience store about two miles away. The staff was very nice and very helpful. It did not affect us but it appeared a number of sites, particularly those by the stream have the hookups on the "wrong" side making it difficult to get sited. We enjoyed our stay and will go back.
This is a good place for kids as there are a lot of activities going on, a swimming pool, swim lake, and the James river. We asked for and got a wooded site up on the hill. The site was on a dead end road so very little traffic, it was a little difficult to get into and out of and to level but ended up being very quiet and secluded. We had a very relaxing time. We took the river float trip...it was fun but way too long for us. The staff was polite and accommodating, the place was clean and maintained. I think the new owners (it's been a few years) have done a lot of upgrading and expansion. We will return with the grandchildren.
We are camping here for a week over the 4th. As noted the sites are very large, some shaded, some not. The bath houses are showing their age but have been well maintained and are clean. The grounds are clean and the grass looks nice. Because of the holiday weekend the place was full with a lot of extended families. The roads leading to the cg are pretty narrow and winding so caution is advised. This is a good public cg and we will return.
This is a very quiet park off the beaten path. The owners obviously take pride in the place, they were there cleaning and working both days we camped. The fish pond was a disappointment due the inaccessible edges and the sites were very close together but the place is clean and well maintained. We will return.
This state park is very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had a very nice visit with the camp hosts. The shower rooms are separate and we did not use them because we use the shower in the trailer but they appeared clean and neat when we looked at them. The rest rooms were good, not perfect. We camped in the older section where the roads are not as well maintained but the sites are more wooded. The newer section has better roads, 50 amp service, but is much more open. The sites are large, well maintained, and a good distance apart. There is a nice pool/water slide but it was not open yet. We did rent a canoe and paddle around the lake. We will return.
This campground is well maintained and clean. It's still early so not everything is ready to go yet. I was a little surprised that one of the bath houses was still closed. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The sites are easy to get in and out of. Our only complaint was some all night partiers about five sites down. We plan to return.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The CG is three miles down a winding country road that could be a little intimidating on a dark wet night. The CG is rustic but very clean and even though the area is hilly the sites are level and easy to access. The management takes pride in the place and we will return.
We tent camped at this campground...big mistake. As previously noted the facility is about 50 yards from I-95. The few tent sites available are poorly defined and we weren't sure exactly where our site lines ended. About one in the morning a car pulled up next to ours and two people proceeded to unload their stuff, then sleep in their car, then they left about 6 am??? We will not return.
We camped in the woods. It was early in the season and pool, etc. was not open but the place was clean and well kept. We were escorted to our site by the "Ranger". Check in was smooth and the staff was friendly. It is close to home and will be great fun for the grandchildren during the summer. We will return.
We camped with extended family for two nights. The three sites we used were next to each other and except for being a little uneven were just what we needed. The staff was friendly and helpful making reservations and at check-in. Our only complaint was the copious amounts of mosquitoes. The staff sprayed but to no avail. We will return.
