A nice stopover for the night! Sites are a little narrow as far as being side to side, but nice level gravel site, long enough to pull in with your car and not have to unhook. There are fire pits available. All sites are pull through. Great little store handy. Friendly staff. Noise from the highway, yes, but a fan running or your AC takes care of that. Can't beat the rate. We would stay here again.
If you don't mind freight trains tooting their horns and running back and forth at the back of the fairgrounds, (it's a main train thoroughfare between Elkhart, IN and Chicago, IL, then this is a nice place to spend the night. They sound like they are right next to your unit no matter where you are in the fairgrounds. The fairgrounds are neat, clean, and electric service is excellent, but we had trouble with the trains. This must not bother most people because they have rally after rally after rally there. The fairground makes it nice for bike riding all over the grounds. We spent three days here and started getting used to the train noise. The fairgrounds themselves and the building are in excellent condition with pretty landscaping, so it was a pleasant place to stay. We would camp here again. I'll just remember next time to bring my earplugs, run a fan, and run the AC too!
This is a great park with great location if you are looking for inexpensive camping. Sites are not all level and park is located within a short distance of the city wastewater treatment plant (it's at the end of the park). We did not notice the smell unless you were right next to the plant. Sites are fairly close together but still enough room to put awnings out without encroaching on your neighbor's property. Fire pit was right by our door, we weren't able to use it. There is a fantastic bike path, the Little Traverse Greenway that runs along the city's park. The city hospital is right behind the park as well, so you can hear the hospital's power plant running. We really weren't bothered by that. Great location to city's restaurants and parks, within walking distance. Rated a 6 because of site conditions.
