Beautiful state park, and the staff was very accommodating. However, the sites are short, not at all level, and the roads are tight. We were here in a 35' motorhome, and had a very hard time getting it level. Staff helped us find a better site. Mosquitos were the size of small birds this year! Go prepared with lots of bug spray!
As expected from a more "urban" campground, the sites were very close together. We were here only overnight, however, it would be a good base for exploring the area. The BBQ food they sell was excellent! We would stay here again.
We got in late, glad there was a pull through. Just off a busy road, and there was a lot of road noise. They do have electric only sites in the front which would be even easier for overnights if you can live with the road noise. With KOAs, you know what you are getting. Narrow sites, a person leads you to the site. Really fine for the overnight, although the price is high.
Overpriced for just an overnight. Maybe the pricing is better if staying longer. It is mostly pavement. Narrow sites. Not a camping location. In an industrial area which had a lot of noise. Probably would not stay here again due to cost, although it is open year round, which may be an advantage as so many place close in the winter.
We were here for 9 nights. What a great RV park! First, it is really really quiet--and we loved that. It is a little bit off the main road, so it stays quiet all the time. The scenery of the mountains is great (especially to us "flat landers") The way the sites are set up are excellent--when you are sitting in your campsite, you are not looking at your neighbor's sewer connection. It allows for large campsite areas. Extremely well maintained. The laundry room was spotless. The hosts provided great information when asked. We really wish we could have stayed longer! We would definitely camp here again.
This is a typical KOA with very tight sites. The car for the people next to us was about 3 feet from the corner of our rig. Very tight--with the picnic table there (lengthwise)we had about 2' between it and our rig to walk around. We knew it was a KOA, and knew what we would be getting, so we weren't really surprised. It is on a busy road, so lots of road noise always and the pull through sites were right next to the road/entrance. Other than that, we weren't here for the campground. Probably would not stay here again.
Very convenient, right off US2, about halfway between Ashland WI and Ironwood MI. People very friendly. Sites are grassy, level. Roads are gravel. Only reason for a 7 is that the sites are narrow. Sitting outside our rig, I could hear the people in the rig next to use opening/closing their drawers. We would stay here again.
It is not a campground. It is a parking lot with W/E hookups. No fires, no picnic tables. It is fine for an overnight or if you are there to use the casino, but isn't where we'd stay for any length of time. Electric and water were great.
Love this campground! We were camping here for the weekend, with friends, and used site #14, which allowed us to make a "U" with our rigs. There were several groups like ours for the holiday weekend, and the owners here are always accommodating for groups as well as single units. The place is clean, very quiet, far enough off the beaten track, but not too far from the town. Tall trees provide lots of shade. Would definitely stay here again!
Love this campground! It is truly a gem! Quiet, feels like the "country" but close to everything in the Chicago area. It is always well-maintained, nice paved parking pads. We will stay here again when in the Chicago area.
We've stayed here a number of times. It is a quiet RV park, even on a holiday weekend. The owners are extremely nice, and make popcorn on holiday weekends. The showers/restrooms could use updating and/or fresh paint--they are looking a bit run down. We don't normally use the showers in a campground, but were having a problem with our rig's shower. There is a small playground for kids, but not a lot of other things for kids to do. It probably contributes to the quietness of the campground. We would stay here again.
When we arrived, the entry area was so full of vehicles, you couldn't pull an RV in there. So we parked the RV at the nearby restaurant. After running the gauntlet of smokers outside the office door, we were told our site wasn't available, but they would give us a different site (with sewer) at no extra charge. A "really nice" site. Not very welcoming or friendly. The road to the site was horribly pot-holed. The roads are very narrow, and one parked RV had his awning out into the road. The site was extremely unlevel and muddy. When we got to the site, we saw why our original one wasn't available; 75% of the sites are flooded! It's on the Minnesota river, and it was apparent that most of the sites had been flooded at one point. There was very little gravel to park on and very little "grass" to walk on. Parking the towed vehicle was a challenge. While we were here it rained even more, and the water got to within 10 or 15 feet of our rig. This reservation was made in April, and no attempt was made to contact us to let us know the situation at the campground, nor was anything said at the time of checkin. Overall, what sites were available were very narrow, very run down looking, very damp due to the heavy tree cover. We would not stay here again. There are other options within the Minneapolis/St Paul area.
Love this campground. It is easy to get to and always has space available. It is quiet, even though there were several large groups camping. On the trail system and the La Crosse river. Very family friendly, and the hosts are very nice.
The park is great, with plenty to do for all people. Lots of sites, with a lot of challenging ones for leveling the rig. I think larger rigs would fit, but in some cases would be a tight fit. Quiet. Rangers were visible, and made regular rounds. Now that we've been to this park, we probably wouldn't come back for a while--too many other places to see!
As previously mentioned, right next to I-94, so road noise may be a problem for some. The gravel road to get to campground is not in good shape, very dusty when dry and we were told very slippery when wet. Older park that has been maintained very well. We would stay here again, probably as an overnight rather than a destination.
Loved staying here. It was the perfect location for our Black Hills adventures. Quiet, clean, extremely well maintained. Does not have a lot of amenities, however, we weren't looking for them as we don't have children. It is next door to another campground and down the street from several others, so we were able to do laundry easily. The concrete pads for parking are great--perfectly level--and made the week long stay very enjoyable. The staff person was fabulous! We would absolutely stay here again!
Right next to I-90, as others have said so road noise may be a problem for some. We were here only overnight, as was planned, however, some sites, including ours, were extremely muddy. They've obviously been doing some digging for sewers at sites, and the grass had not grown in. In addition, they had not replaced the stone in the area to park the RV. Very very messy with all the mud. We'd stay again if just an overnight, but not for any longer. We'd also make reservation for specific site to avoid road noise and low-lying sites.
The sites are fabulous! They look newly repaved, are level, easy to back into, and most look plenty long. The sites are private, with foliage separating most sites. There are a number of loops with 25 or so sites on each loop, so you feel you are in a very small campground. In October, it was very pretty and extremely quiet. Great wildlife watching. Very well maintained. Loved that they had city water available, and gray water dump locations on each loop. We would definitely stay here again.
What a beautiful park! A great place to stay, as we had activities in the NW suburbs of Chicago. Very well maintained sites, a "newer" section had pull through sites. The people were nice, friendly. Except for the train on a couple of early mornings, it was very quiet. The wildlife was great to watch. It was perfect for us (no kids, not looking for all the add on like pools, activities, playgrounds, etc.) Convenient to transportation and "civilization". We would absolutely stay here again.
This park provided a perfect place to explore the area. We were thrilled with the warm reception. We had a bit of a time getting level, but it worked out OK. The park was very clean, neat. People adhered to the quiet time (which we appreciated). The honey wagon service was a bargain! WiFi worked OK, not stellar. We would stay here again.
The owners were great--extremely friendly, personable, helpful, kind. They were a pleasure to talk to. Worked with us and our rig to get us the best spot for it (easy in/out). Helped back it in (as only one of us was available for that). The campground is mostly seasonal, but it was extremely quiet. They do not have a lot of recreational activities on site, which is fine with us. We don't use them anyway. Wouldn't necessarily recommend it for families with small children--no playground that we could tell. Great for exploring the area and using the lakes in the area. Would most definitely stay here again.
The sites were large and for the most part very treed so you don't feel like you are right on top of your neighbor. Although there are no water hookups there are water stations through out the park so you don't have to walk far to get water if needed. We have camped here several times before and will do so again.
Great place to stay while we were doing other things in the area. Not crowded. Very pretty. They are building a new larger shower facility, so some sites were not available. Still wasn't a problem to get in though. Love the rate per night, too!
Sites are narrow, overall. You are very cozy with your neighbors on either side. All sites (except overflow) have full service, including sewer hookup. Controlled entry into the location. Very clean overall. Shuttle service for casino is great. It is a good place to stay if just overnighting or if there for the casino. If we weren't going to the casino, we probably wouldn't stay there.
Great county park! The sites were very shaded, very private. Lots of trees and greenery. Playground area for kids. In a county park, so there are hiking trails for all levels, fishing, picnic areas. Was quiet all weekend long, even though the campground was full. We would stay again.
What a great place to stay! Wide, long sites that are level. Very quiet. There are about 1/2 the sites that are seasonal. Easy to get into and out of. And, all the trees! The pines really do whisper here!
The good: convenient to activities we were here for. Full hookup sites right next to the lake. Great wildlife. Owners very responsive, friendly, helpful. Took care of an issue with a tent (not ours) behind our rig immediately. Lots of very shaded sites. The bad: very dry and roads are extremely dusty (not paved) with lots of holes (could use a good layer of stone). Very busy campground--lots of coming/going. Overall: We would stay here again.
Glad we were here only overnight. Park not full. Park over 50% seasonal, and it appeared that each seasonal person was responsible for their own site maintenance (e.g. mowing the grass), so there was great variation in the level of maintenance provided. Very shabby--needs a lot of basic maintenance--paint and building repairs. Sites were level. Park was quiet, except for all the golf carts running around. The ponds were very low--swampy. The registration desk/store was like an old, well-used ashtray--the people working were smokers. It was OK for a quick overnight, but I wouldn't plan on staying here again.
We only stayed here 1 night. Sites were a bit narrow, but the park was not even close to full, so we didn't have people on either side of us. Easy to get around. Very nice people working there. Far enough off the tollway so that it wasn't noisy. Well maintained. We would stay here again.
Wonderful! As soon as you pull in the park, you feel as if you are in a different, quiet, natural world. We were here on a weeknight, and it was maybe 1/3 full. Plenty of space. Beautiful sites with lots of green space. Private sites have green "belts" between sites. We liked it so much, we are already planning a return trip to be able to stay multiple days. Sites level, the circles or rings of sites makes it seem much smaller than it is. The lake front sites are all non-electric (tents or class b). What a great park!
Very friendly staff. Sites on the smallish side, but that was OK with us. WiFi was sketchy at best. A little traffic noise. Loved that the campers quieted down around 9 p.m. Very clean. Very well maintained. Great trees and shade. We would stay here again.
Loved this campground. Very well maintained, overall. Quiet. Not a lot of amenities (e.g. no playground, no pool), but for a home base for the area, worked out great--we weren't looking for amenities. Hosts led you to site, helped you line up. Very friendly. Has WiFi for $1 per day. Parking areas were stone, all sites had a concrete patio with picnic table and fire ring. It looked like most sites were full hook up, and most were pull through. We would definitely stay here again.
We thought this was a good place to stay, and would stay here again. The price is right for the amenities. There is some train noise and some road noise (which is why no "10"), but otherwise very quiet. Unlike the other comments here, we did not have a problem pulling in a site, people did not stay up late, owner did come through a couple of times during the weekend we were here. It is a beautiful setting, with a site for every taste (shaded, not shaded, private, pull through, etc.) Loved that the owner gave us a map, and let us pick what area and site we wanted. Great access to bike trails.
Good things: Lots of trees, shade, next to state park, quiet, large sites, level sites. When hooking up there was a problem with their water spigot and anti-siphon valve. They fixed it within 10 minutes. Not so good: WiFi was intermittent at best, sites were all stone (no grass) probably due to all the trees, poor maintenance in some areas (e.g. basketball court). Overall, we would camp here again.
This campground is new in 2006, and still needs to work out some issues. GOOD THINGS: Great shady sites, beautiful location; sites are pretty private, with lots of trees/shrubs between sites. Very natural--not groomed and manicured to death. Everybody here uses ATVs on the trails, which are very close by. Great natural place to use as base for exploring the area or going on the ATV. NOT SO GOOD: there was no map (they had run out of copies); site was not level, so it took a lot to level our rig; check in was in the bar and poorly marked; no clue where to put trash; seems to be mostly seasonal; few rules so there was one very loud and long night (out of 3 nights there); very few amenities.
This was the best maintained park! Staff was constantly sweeping/vacuuming/making it neat. Great sites, all with concrete patio and an excellent picnic table. Lots of grassy areas and fun activities. Snack bar is OK, not outstanding. Only minor downside is that we tend to be the "early to bed-early to rise" types, and their quiet time started late on Saturday night because they had a live band playing outside, not far from our site. Located across the street from ATV trails, and has a great mini-golf. Looks like they are still adding on and adding amenities.
It is pretty quiet; family friendly; pet friendly. They escort you to your site. Overall, it is starting to deteriorate, and could use some stringent maintenance. Extra charges for a lot of items, including dump station. Neighboring site had electrical problem, which they did fix quickly. Large sites with tables. Fire rings are shared. It was good for our "maiden voyage" or shake-down of the new rig, but we wouldn't go there again.
