Nice location right at the beach with spacious sites. You could not be closer to the beach. This is what we like about the park. There are also nice hiking paths on the other side towards the bay. Clean rest rooms and very friendly and helpful stuff. However they need to improve the fire sites. Not all sites have grills anymore and the fire pits cannot be used for grilling since they don't have grids. Also some of these pits are are 1' to 2' deep. Watch your little children. Another weird thing: The shelters are on the left side of the parking strips. But since we have small popup trailer I always turn the trailer 180 degrees with the tongue facing in. This is very easy since the sites are level. I just prefer my door and awning facing the campsite. And bring your own fire wood. The park ranger do not sell wood. The camp hosts sometimes do have wood. But not always. I also could not find any wood in the stores close by.
One of our favorite parks closer to the DFW area. Small quiet park around a small lake. Not too many camp sites and no noisy power boats or jet skies. Very clear water and ideal for swimming and canoing. You can rent canoes or paddle boats. Nice shaded sites. Perfect for a summer retreat. Nice hiking path around the lake. Not too long, and easy for smaller kids.
Great for tent camping. OK for trailers. I have been there with a tent and with a trailer. The walk in tent sites are right in the canyon with spectacular views. Unfortunately the RV sites are outside in a little forest with no views into the canyon. But nonetheless the park is great for hiking, biking and photography.
Our favorite park in Texas. Great scenery, great hiking, great photography. Lots of wildlife like deer, turkeys, coyotes, Texas Horned Lizards (seen a few), roadrunners, tarantulas, scorpions, snakes. Everything is just great! Also great for kids. Nice playgrounds, lots of rock climbing and some of the water crossings are nice sand and mud holes for the kids to play in. We have been here a few times and our favorite camp side is the Mesquite Camping Area at the very end of the park. No shade but spectacular views. Perfect around spring or fall. Great place for the Thanksgiving Weekend. It can get cold in the night. But will stay warm during the day. Clean facilities and very friendly staff. If it weren't a six to seven hour ride from DFW, we would be here more often.
Close to Sea World but not very kids friendly. No persons under 16 allowed in the pool without adult supervision. Same applies to the TV/media room. We experienced 14 and 15 year old teens getting kicked out of the pool area; very rude since they did not show up with their parents. No persons under 18 allowed in the hot tub at all. Very disappointing for my kids. In addition the pool was murky and laundry equipment did not work very well. Sorry but I do not want to keep my kids on on a leash when going camping. I will not camp here again.
