On this review I will be judging the campground and my experience in it. The campground is part of a county park and the area here is quite large and includes nice hiking trails around the lake and surrounding wooded area and on the dam on the south side of the lake. The trails are well maintained, wide and family friendly. The lake is stocked and we saw a number of people fishing, with positive results! While there is no access to a pool here there is a lake with a beach that allows swimming and has a lifeguard during the summer months. On the south side of the park is access to a city trail that is several miles long for walkers and cyclists to use. The campground area also features a playground with a few things for the children as well as two shower houses. The one we used, closest to the entrance, was clean and usually empty; we never waited during our stay. The campground does not have water hookups at each campsite but the water faucet was very close to ours so we placed a splitter on it and left our camper connected with the permission of the staff, who is very friendly here. The two problems we ran into were the shower houses were closed for more than 24 hours consecutively during our stay, and there is a problem with leaving at night. The park closes at 10, and we had to leave for a sick family member and found the gate closed and locked. An inspection of the gate gave us an easy exit (without damaging anything) and as I was leaving an employee from the parks department, who was off of work, arrived and told me I was not allowed to leave, and as I was opening the gate I was grabbed, and the local authorities had to be called. Upon returning I found that a parks department employee stays near the shower house overnight, and if he were aware of my leaving this might have been a far easier event. Upon leaving we found the dump station (open hole, no adapter) near the guard shack that was very easy to access. Overall I would recommend the campground, but make sure you have your own shower ready just in case, and alert the staff near the shower house if you are leaving after hours.
This was our first time using our own large pop-up camper and we choose this campground because it was a KOA, a name we trusted. While driving back to the campground we noticed that the roads were somewhat rough, especially when approaching from the east. Upon checking we were refunded $3.00 for our site because it was 30amp instead of 50amp. The owners were friendly during check-in and when they heard we had a blown fuse they gave us a box of fuses they kept as spares to see if it would fit our camper. The site was level but it needed more gravel as there was a fair deal of mud when we arrived and after the heavy rains we had a lot of mud outside our camper, as did our neighbor. The water and electric hookups were just fine but a water filter is a good thing here, the water is not great. The sewer hookup is sub-par and is simply done by dropping the line in, no adapter would fit our site. The camp store has snacks, ice cream, some supplies and small souvenirs. The pool was in good shape and well maintained and the playground and large trampoline were hits with our kids and other kids that were there, it was a very family friendly campground.
We decided to stay here on a weekend with my sons because of the water park that is part of the campground for an extra fee, which is listed on the site. The campground was easy to find and signs were up to guide you from the highway to the driveway. Upon arrival the lady working was very friendly and got us checked in quickly. The shop has some snacks and basic needs kind of things as well as life jackets if you choose to use them at the water park. The roads were gravel and in good shape for gravel. Our site was a river view site, which my sons enjoyed, that did not have a sewer hook up. The tote pull to the dump station is a little ways and with the gravel it was rough but not bad. The dump station was well maintained and functioned perfectly. We had some noisy neighbors across the field, which I had to approach and ask to calm down at nearly 2 AM, but they were gone the next night and it was very peaceful. Overall, the fees were not bad and my sons had a great time so we will be returning.
