Very friendly staff. We truly enjoyed our stay here. Our cabin was on the lake and the view was absolutely beautiful and a joy to wake up to in the morning. They have a very nice nature walk through the woods. It was quiet at night which was nice. Dog friendly too. I did not want to leave! I would definitely camp here again.
The people here were very nice. However, for some reason they have the Kamping Kabins right near the freeway. We got very little sleep after a long day of traveling, and it sounded as though the trucks on the freeway were about to come right through our Kabin. Had I known ahead of time that this was the case, I would have paid more and used their Kamping Lodge which is situated at the rear of the campground. Why they don't put at least a couple of the Kabins back there as well is beyond my comprehension. I would stay here again, but at an RV site or in the lodge. Bathrooms were clean.
Stayed here three nights in the cottage and used this as a base camp for our sightseeing trips in the area. The river front is beautiful and as soon as the wetland growth is cut down a bit will be much more visible throughout the park. They are planning to do this in January, 2009. Unfortunately, the cottage and lodges are at the front end of the park near a very busy highway and we heard traffic pretty much all the time. For some reason the heater in the cottage is extremely loud and actually woke me from a sound sleep on a few occasions. Sounds like a wind tunnel. stayed at another KOA campground afterwards in a lodge and this was not a problem at all. Campground hosts are very friendly. The cottage was very clean as was the park itself. I did however notice that the camp sites were very small and I felt that if I had my motorhome with me I would probably be unhappy with this situation. There appears to be plenty of room for a large rig to park but the little yard areas are narrow and too close to the other campsites. All in all I might be inclined to stay another night here while passing through the area.
Camped in the south campground section and loved it! Huge oak trees provided plenty of shade and yet not too much. The walk to the beach was lovely and made the extra distance worthwhile. Nice little campground store in the north campground section. The site was roomy and the roads are paved and nice for bike riding (they don't have a designated bike path that I'm aware of). Lots of very beautiful foot paths through the wooded areas. Be aware that during this time of year the acorns are falling and make a lot of noise when they hit the top of the camper. The leaves were beginning to change color and this was really enjoyable to see. I definitely plan on more stays in this park.
This was my third time camping at this park in 2008 and I have enjoyed each stay. Beautiful riverfront view including watching passing freighters. Nice bike and foot paths. Very clean restrooms and showers. Even a few rows back I still had a decent view of the water. Extremely friendly staff. A convenience store not too far away where firewood may be purchased as well as pretty good tasting pizza. Only drawbacks are a very busy main road right in front of the campground. Also, skeet shooting can be heard at times throughout the day. The riverfront view and the other things the park has to offer make it worthwhile. There is a large day use park next door to the campground and across the road from that is a small swimming beach.
Stayed three nights in a lodge and loved it! Had a nice side yard with a few large trees and plenty of room. Not a lot of road noise. Being very tired of hotels, we found this to be a welcome experience. Only negative was finding some light bulbs burnt out which were promptly replaced by the staff upon notification. Also the bathroom drain was clogged up. None of these issues really took away from our enjoying our stay. I couldn't help but notice that the camp sites were quite spacious. If I'd had my motorhome with me I know I would have appreciated this fact. An added plus was that we happened to be there when the hosts were recording their video of the month and because we participated they gave us a free night! If in the area I would definitely stay in this campground again.
