The good first: campground sites and grounds were very clean and landscaped very nicely. The little pond and stream are clean and pretty. The tent sites are level and spacious. There are a few that are fairly private with big shrubs on both sides. It is a long walk to the restrooms, though. The bad: Despite making our reservations a month ago and requesting a site, we got moved, which was very inconvenient, as we were camping with another family. It made it difficult to share meals at night. The lower sites are much nicer than the ones up the hill. I thought the permanent sites up there were an eye sore. Having said that, the first row of the lower sites (site 25) is along Route 250 and sometimes the traffic is pretty loud. The pool is small and the sides are very slippery. I think the staff were very rude. They treated us like complete outsiders, or maybe a better choice of words is "intruder." We would not return.
This campground was just OK for us. The good first: camper sites were spacious and level and the kids enjoyed the playground. I'm not sure exactly why we didn't like this campground that much; it may be because it was hot as heck and our site was in full sun the whole time. Our kids are used to romping around barefoot, but there are stickers galore in the grass so even sitting under the awning, w/ a large mat, you are still guaranteed to get a thorn in your foot. Our friends stayed on tent sites and their tents did not even fit on the tent pad. I thought the fees for tent campers was outrageous: $32/night and that is no electric and no water on your site. Don't be fooled by the words "heated pool." It's only heated by one of those plastic pool covers. The pond is pretty gross and murky looking, but they did catch a couple fish. No campfires allowed on a lot of the sites either. I am not really sure why they won't put in fire pits at all the sites. We took our portable fire bowl w/ us, which was OK w/ them. I doubt if we would go back.
Campers will be pleasantly surprised by the improvements made since the construction of the water park. The main road has been repaved, and it is newly paved all the way back to the water park. Trees along the main entrance road have been trimmed back and it looks like some have been cut down. While we were there, dump trucks were putting down new gravel on all of the camp roads. The game rooms were being renovated, so we were not able to see what improvements are going on there. Staff was awesome, as usual!
Our kids ranked it as the best campground we visited this year. From an adult point of view, I would agree that it was a nice campground. A little pricey, but it was worth it. Staff was excellent -- very nice, escort you to the site, able to answer questions. Temps were below freezing, so they came around to turn everyone's water off and let the water hoses drain out after 10 p.m. CG is very clean. The main road used to get to campsites needs some improvements...a big mud hole in the center of the main road. This was probably from construction. New water slide and pool look VERY nice. Bathrooms/showers near office very clean. Don't think we would want to stay in the new section. Looks like a grass parking lot -- no privacy. We would stay in the "yellow" section - heavily wooded, quiet and more privacy. Sights are level and pretty easy to get into...some are tight because of large boulders and trees. We will definitely go back.
It's been 20 years since I've been to Red Run. It was my favorite campground then and now it's the favorite of my kids. Sites near covered bridge or more roomy than the ones down past the lodge. The squirt gun hay ride was the silliest hayride ever! We laughed so hard at all the campers coming at us w/ their garden hoses. The fishing pond was great!! The boys were pulling small fish in left and right! Only reason for giving a 9 is the DJ should consider being more of a family oriented DJ, particularly since younger children are here with their families. I'm not a bump on a log, but some of his songs have profanity and sexual overtones: not good for the little ones' ears. He could still provide a lot of fun without having to play that kind of music.
Nice campground. Very clean and friendly atmosphere. Owner and staff check the grounds frequently and stop to talk to see how things are going. Although we didn't hear the commotion, the owner did ask one unit of campers to leave because they were being very rowdy after quiet time. Some sites did not seem to be very level. The tent area is very nice, but a long walk to the bath house. Chemical toilets are nearby. Only reason for not giving a 10 is that we had trouble getting into our spot. The nice man across from us moved his truck so we could use part of his space to back in (trees were in the way). Once we were parked the front of our trailer was only a foot off the road, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to open our awning due to the electric pole, but we had lots of room behind our camper for our campfire. Sites are very close to your neighbors. The pool is nice; the owner checks to make sure kids under 14 are w/ an adult. Nice playground, volleyball court, softball field and putt putt. Activities all weekend long provided fun entertainment for all ages. $36 fee for electric and water only. We will definitely camp here again.
Stayed over Mem. Day weekend. Easy check-in; stopped at the gate, gave our last name and someone in a golf cart escorted us to our site, showed us hookups, etc... Staff very friendly!! We stayed in the new sites which are at the very top of the steep hill near the paintball park. The paintball guns did not bother us at all as they are used in the woods away from campers. They do not rent golf carts. This could be a problem for older people or people with disabilities. However, you can drive down to the pool and activities and there is ample parking. Nice and clean campground. You see plenty of staff picking up, cleaning up, and making sure things are running smoothly.
Excellent camping resort. First time in our new camper and even though it rained we had a great experience. Only reason for not giving a 10 rating is that our campsite was close to Rt. 15, which is a very busy highway with lots of tractor trailers. I felt like we were parked literally on the side of the road. It was even hard to hear each other talk while sitting around the campfire. Look close at the camp site map before deciding on your spot. You do not want to be near the Walker Trail side of the map. Extremely clean campground and bathrooms. Staff was friendly and helpful. BINGO in Lincoln Hall was a lot of fun and cheap.
