Johnny Appleseed Park is a hidden gem in the heart of Fort Wayne proper (as well as being located on the now world-famous Fort Wayne Street... Harry Baals Drive!). While small, great wooded sites, and recently updated (and CLEAN) restrooms/showers! You can walk to the Coliseum for any events. It's also very close to Glenbrook Mall, IPFW campus, and Concordia Lutheran High School. Just off the St. Joe River, and campground connects to the Bike Trail which is constantly being added to for more access to the city and surrounding areas.
With a family of 6 (using a pop-up camper), the restroom/shower facilities are pretty important...Very clean and accessible! The sites (except for maybe #59) have plenty of room to set up your camp and enjoy plenty of "space" with your family (not cramped like some "commercial" sites). The site also have a very nice "design"... for easy setup (i.e. with fire pits located at a safe distance from the camper/tent). Some GREAT lake shore sites (especially #41, 43, and 45), as well as some very nice "woods" sites not on the lake (i.e. odd numbered 47 through 57), noting that most all sites were nice. GREAT experience. (no wi-fi, but only "important" if you need it).
