Very nice setting. This is right in the National Park and very nice amenities around. The grocery store/Gift shop was excellent. Better grocery store than some small towns have! Grocery store includes ice cream shop as an added bonus. We stayed in one of the loops in the higher numbers. This will put you closer to the lake. In the morning, a walk to the lake to take pictures was welcomed by a Momma Moose and baby hanging out by the lake. Made for great photos. The Marina is nearby and would recommend a lake cruise. We would definitely go back to this CG.
Nice park, friendly staff. What you would expect from a KOA. It is one of the higher priced KOAs, not sure it was worth the extra $. But it's very convenient to Yellowstone, and we did not spend much time in the park as we were in Yellowstone all day. Sites are nice, level, easy in and out.
In our opinion, The best part of this park is its location relative to Yellowstone and it is reasonably priced. We too did ask if we could change sites and the staff quickly said it can't be changed. They said the reservation system doesn't allow them to make changes and it complicates other reservations. The pool is small, and we did not use the restaurant, but it looked nice. We stayed 2 nights and during the day we spent all day at Yellowstone. Be careful when you are in Yellowstone. Even though this is one of the closest CGs to the East entrance, you are about 1 1/2 hours from the Fishing Bridge intersection. We went through some time warp and didn't realize how late it was getting and we were in Mammoth Hot Springs about 9:00 at night. I don't think we got back until midnight.
For some, this may be a great place to stay, for us, it was way too much money for a campground. They had decent sites with a pool and small water play area. We were shocked that the putt putt was an additional $5 per person (Are you serious!?!) It is conveniently located near Wisconsin Dells, this was a pass through for us, we only stayed one night on our way to Mt. Rushmore. I wouldn't go back due to the high cost.
DO NOT follow GARMIN's directions. If you are being directed to get here any way other than on Hwy 244, you won't find the entrance. Ours sent us down "Old Hill City Rd" and "Palmer Gulch Trail" this would take you down a two track to come in the back of the KOA. This is great if you are camping in an ATV. This is a great KOA. Lot's to do for the kids. Two stores, a water slide, nice pool, playground, etc. Very clean, friendly, etc. Sites are small, but we didn't spend a lot of time in our site. We like the shaded sites up on the hill better. We did the Chuck Wagon trail ride and it was a lot of fun. Great meal and great entertainment. This is an added cost and it is a bit pricey, but if you consider the meal you are eating and the entertainment, it is not bad. We enjoyed it.
