Another great Florida State Park! Some of the CLEANEST bathrooms/showers we've seen. Open and not much shade (glad we weren't there in the middle of summer!) Nice hiking trails, great birding, pretty lakes, very friendly rangers and hosts. Spacious sites, though the sewage hookups (not available on all sites) were near the front of the sites which made them impossible to use, unless you had 3 or 4 hoses hooked together. (After the 8-10 minute drive to the park gate) it's 20 minutes to Disney! Plenty of shopping and restaurants minutes from the front gate. Solid Verizon 4g coverage. We will stay here again!
Had a reservation for 9 nights at $31/night. Upon arrival, I was told that our last night was going to be at the "event" rate of $91/total. There was no influx of additional campers that night. (The 'event' was the 24 hour sports car race that started the next day) They also charged an extra, undisclosed $2/night for our 7 pound Shitzu...Really? Lots of run down permanent resident units and some really nice newer units right next to them. Wi-Fi didn't work, but I had good Verizon 4g coverage. A lot of traffic noise. I can't imagine how noisy it is during Bike Week or NASCAR races! Because of the money issues, we won't stay here again. Get your price quote In Writing! Mine was verbal over the phone.
Nice sites, great wildlife/bird watching but the office/reservation staff needs to be summarily fired and replaced. They've all been there for years, and think THEY own the place. Good luck if you have a problem, or need reservation help. They are rude, condescending and have horrible customer service. In the future, I'll bypass the Alabama State Parks!
WOW! What a wonderful campground. We really love all of the COE's, but this one was our favorite, so far. BIG sites, super quiet, great roads for motorcycling. As others have said, it's quite a ways from town, so bring what you need.
We really liked this park. We prefer the more rustic "primitive camping in an RV", and we got that here. Not a lot of extra amenities, but we enjoyed it. The rangers were very nice and informative, and the nature-viewing was great. It was very private and quiet, inexpensive and convenient. We are going back soon!
Yea - clean and pristine - probably GREAT for families - but just not our 'cup of tea'. We prefer more 'nature' oriented. The sites here are REALLY close. I had a great view of my neighbors sewer hookup! I now know what an 'RV Resort' is...and won't be staying at others... If you're like us, and prefer a more 'quaint' and natural setting - the Grayton Beach is a few miles down the road, and that's where we'll stay next trip here.
Beautiful older park - but needs some updating (Which, I understand, is 'in the works). LOT'S of shade (makes it almost impossible to get a satellite signal, though!), beautiful oaks with Spanish Moss. Gravel sites. Unusual for a COE park - the bathroom facilities and cleanliness left a lot to be desired!
