Lovely site run by a lovely couple. Everything here is done simply and well. The site is specifically targeted to cater for people traveling through, as opposed to long termers working on the local construction or oil projects. Whilst it's a full hook-up service, you need to come able to be pretty much self sufficient as there are no bathroom or shower facilities. Dogs and kids were very warmly welcomed and both equally enjoyed the stay. My three sons were intrigued by the owner sharing some of his rock finds and all of them spent hours looking for their own specimens whilst spying on the local rabbit population. The dogs just love having space to stretch their legs. If you find yourself needing to stop somewhere near Terry, don't hesitate to give this owner lady and her hubby a call and see if they've got room to fit you in. Good facilities at a very good price.
A really nice State Park. The shower and bathroom facilities were spotless and we were almost the only people staying on the park. Through the summer there is a resident manager who lives in a big 5th wheel on-site, and he is very friendly. We were allowed to have a fire and the site manager was able to sell us a couple of bundles of wood. I really liked this location but the lack of sewer hook up and water was a real problem for my wife. The manager did warn us that the place was very busy at the weekend, but through the week it appears to be quiet as a mouse. We were able to dump and wash out our tank on the way out and also able to fill up with fresh water. If you're happy living for a night without full hook up I'd really recommend this place. but the lack of amenities stops me scoring it any higher than an eight.
Rawlins isn't a destination but more of a stopping point close to Interstate 80 whilst you're on-route to somewhere pretty. That being said, this park absolutely serves its purpose. The proximity to the freeway is great but far enough away from it that the noise isn't obtrusive. You do hear the far off sound of the big rigs going past and the odd distant train but again this isn't a bad thing and could almost be described as soothing. The pull throughs were great but be very careful as the water pressure is insane!!! Make sure you have a regulator!!! No sewer hook-up, but they do let you dump on the way out. Showers and toilets were immaculate and the staff were superb. Kids liked the little park, and the pet area was good for the dogs. As a quick stop-off this place is great with fantastic facilities at a superb price. I'd definitely stop here again.
Stunning view of Devils Tower right from your front door on practically every perking area. They make a big deal of showing the Close Encounters film at 19.00 every evening and we thought it was going to be on some big screen somewhere... turned out to be a regular TV in the restaurant which when we were there had a big party dining right in front of the screen... decided to go back to the trailer and watch it on DVD there instead. Kids loved the park for cycling round and they adored the small petting area where you can hang out with donkeys, pigs, ducks and goats. I would have scored it higher but the bathrooms/showers were a little long in the tooth and definitely needed updating (but the were clean)... after all, when you're paying $63/night you want everything to be great.
Heading east out of Reno the first real piece of civilisation you hit is Elko and the Iron Horse RV park is very definitely a nice place to stay. The lay out is great and the facilities are very good, clean and modern. We were surprised to find we also got access to the facilities in the Hilton Hotel which is right next door to the RV Park along with a coupon that gave us a nice discount of a meal if we decided to eat there (which we didn't so I can't comment on that). I would have given it a 9 or a maybe even a 10 if it wasn't for the fact that even though it was really nice it felt a little bit expensive. The Cable TV was also rubbish in our site and all we got were snowy pictures on the screen. Fortunately our kids were more interested in riding their bikes around the nicely laid pavement that runs around the whole park. All in all, I would stay here again but I'd probably try and knock them down on the price a little bit next time.
