This park is a hidden jewel close to the Ocala National Forest. The sites are huge and paved road is great for the kids to ride their bikes within the camp loop. We stayed in site 32 and would stay here again. The park is close to shopping and restaurants. Silver Springs theme park is just down the street. Great hiking trails that lead directly to the springs. If you like to relax and hike, this the park for you. We will be back when it's a little cooler and tackle some of the more challenging trails. Facilities were clean and modern, the camp hosts were great and were very attentive. Rangers were also very friendly and helpful.
Ft. Desoto is one of the best parks in all of Florida. If you like to fish, ride your bike or just relax in the clear gulf waters, this is the place for you. We stayed in site 219, which backs into the bay. The kids like the bay side sites because when the tide is down you can walk along the shoreline and look for crabs. There is no swimming allowed. The Mosquito's were active, but that's Florida in the summer time. We saw a couple of raccoons walking near the rear of our site, I have never seen raccoons this big anywhere! If there was one negative about the park, it was the conditions of the bathrooms. It's time for Pinellas Co. to step up and renovate the the showers and bathrooms. Overall, it's a great place to spend some quality family time.
