Sites vary greatly in how level they are, and how spacious. Pretty typical of a forest campground. I chose 'no' for waterfront sites: there are many that are within walking distance but I believe none closer than 40 yards or so. Generally there is a loop open during the off season for free camping until they can move in hosts. We stayed before Memorial Day weekend and there was a ton of confusion. Most of the sites were marked reserved for the upcoming weekend (weekend before Memorial Day, we were here on a Wednesday). Decided to stay until the weekend. And then on the next day one of the camp hosts came around to remove all of the reserved signs. We were prepared to leave anyway so we did. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Every year we have a family reunion and stay at the Logger Campground near Stampede Lake. The hosts here are normally very friendly and helpful and keep the restrooms clean and well stocked with paper. The campsites are great. We camped here in a Truck Camper.

This campground is on Stampede Reservoir, just north of Truckee. It is in Tahoe National Forest. The sites are level, paved, with shade, and almost all of them have a view of the lake, and a lot of them are right on the lake. The fishing was terrific. Also able to water ski or jet ski. Very kid and pet friendly. Very quiet at night and early morning. We camped here in a Motorhome.
