Our 4th consecutive yearly visit and looking forward to next year. Convenient location handy Bras D'Or lakes. Exceptionally clean. On site canteen with super food and large barn hosting musical Jam sessions. Pull thru lots for bigger rigs & power vehicle wash on site. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Nice park with good views of water. Very close to Newfoundland ferry and best park to stop while waiting. Shopping is close by and if you like fish and chips, a stand is on the park property. Owner is friendly. We will stay again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Wide open sites on Trans-Canada highway so road noise is a constant presence. Fine for an overnight stop but sites are very close together with minimal spacing and no vegetation for privacy. There is a beautifully landscaped and maintained trail to Bras d'Or Lake. If only the camp sites had similarly thoughtful landscaping. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Our rate reflected a 30 amp site. There are very nice 50 amp sites overlooking the water, but were $6 more/night. The staff was wonderful. During our stay an Adventures Caravan was also here which typically indicates a consistently high level of service. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Good customer service. We called ahead to advise that the ferry from Newfoundland (which is about ten minutes away) was delayed, and the office staff stayed late after 9 p.m. and led us to our site in the dark via golf cart. Got a good Wi-Fi signal right inside the RV, 2 TV channels with our antenna. Sites are mostly on a flat grass field though some overlook the river. Large, clean, well lighted modern bathrooms, showers are 50 cents. Would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park is located to cater to RVers catching the ferry to Newfoundland. It is very convenient and has easy access to the mostly pull through sites. The sites are completely grassed but not all sites are level. The hosts are very accommodating and provide an information building with pamphlets and other info on the area. You can even borrow books and DVDs for those long rainy nights. They have just upgraded their Internet, which provides a strong signal but has a download limiter which can be frustrating if you use Skype or try to download pictures. They also have the most complete recycling program I've seen to date. We would definitely stay again even if the little fish & chip stand which makes great meals wasn't so convenient. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Park is clean and run very efficiently. Most, if not all, of the sites are grassy pull-throughs and we have yet to find an unlevel one in our numerous stays here. All utilities work well, and interior roads are gravel and in good condition. Check-in is quick and there is someone to direct you to your site. Wi-Fi is excellent. We did not see the bathroom facilities, so can't comment on that. Location of this facility couldn't be better for the NL ferry. We will always choose this park when in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This campground does not accept Good Sam as they are the closest campground to the Newfoundland Ferry Terminal! I guess the owner feels he has a captive market which he does. When we arrived there was a caravan in the park so he had to find us a site. Fortunately he gave us in my opinion one of the nicest sites as it had a magnificent view of the ocean and the valley. The sunsets were marvelous. There is an on-site RV Wash on site but it is expensive. This campground is about 20 miles from Sydney and is close to Fort Louisburg which is a must see attraction. We don't use campground facilities as we use our on board amenities. The owner and staff were very friendly. This is a nice campground but in future I would look around at other campgrounds who may accept Good Sam. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Efficient. Spotlessly clean and meticulously maintained. Level grassy sites with a mix of back-in and pull through; no trees to speak of. Wi-Fi was OK but is automatically throttled against high usage (while I appreciate that this discourages downloads such as movies it made software updating impossible). This is a superb place to stay before boarding ferry to Newfoundland; traffic light at corner to highway and a "straight run" to ferry terminal makes for a no-hassle drive. Bring a Visa card, traveler's checks or cash money; no other credit cards and no discount cards accepted. Would stay here again (but only for one night considering cost vs. amenities) if booked on ferry. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Nice, very RV friendly park with lots of traffic to and from ferry. It also seems, that all caravans in NS stop here, but no problem. Very good 30 Amp and excellent free WiFi. Less than an hour to Louisbourg, 1/2 hour to Sydney, 3 min to NFL ferry. Visa, cash or check only. High pressure RV/car wash on site at reasonable rate. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We came here with a caravan & then extended on our own for a few days. It is a VERY clean RV friendly spot - convenient to sights. Did not rate a 10 simply because it isn't our idea of a "camping" spot - ie no trees. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very nice park with excellent hosts. We stayed here 3 nights before heading to Newfoundland, and 5 nights after our return. We left our 5'er here in storage while we did the NFLD tour. They only charge $5 per day for storage if you are staying a least one night in the park. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a friendly park with lots of Marine Atlantic ferry patrons coming and going. Had a musical get together in the barn at night, was quite good. Chip and snack wagon on site. Sites are level but had no privacy between. Good starting point for touring Louisbourg and Cape Breton Highlands. WiFi has been updated and is very strong. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Park has long, level pull-through sites; plenty of room for caravans; clean showers (50 cents) and laundry; and well-cared for grounds. The activity area includes table tennis, exercise equipment, hot tub, and games. Be sure to take the walking path from the campground down the hill toward the water and around the perimeter of the property. The fields of wild flowers are beautiful. An excellent stop before the ferry to NL as well as the drive to Louisbourg and Glace Bay. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Rate shown includes tax. Site was a grass back-in and with some maneuvering to level. No cable TV, so local off the air offered 3 channels. WiFi was weak except near the office. Has nice views of the lake and the village church. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very friendly and helpful owner. Campground is level and open with easy access for any type rig. Wi-Fi worked great and there is CBS network TV for Americans wanting to see their favorite shows. Easy access to ferry and other services. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We agree with the previous reviews. We stayed here after getting off the ferry from Newfoundland because it is so accessible and close to the ferry. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because the Wi-Fi signal didn't reach our site even though we weren't that far away from the antenna. It still is a beautiful park and we'd definitely stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We stayed here a couple of years ago when we took the ferry to Nfld. This time we chose just to stay in the area. Owners were super friendly and helpful: directed us to our site overlooking the water. Lovely walks with or without your pets. Many extras including a fish and chip wagon on site. Mmmm! They have a large recreation hall with fitness equipment and a jacuzzi . Sites were large and accessible. We would definitely stay again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is an excellent campground with very nice people. The grounds are very clean. The pull though sites will accommodate any size rig. Super close to the Newfoundland ferry, in fact we stayed here coming and going, and will stay here if we are ever in the area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Sites high and dry after several days of rain. Edge of interior roads were wet. Easy access to Newfoundland Ferry. Management said take ferry and get out of rain. Irving Station about 3km south is not easy to fuel but easy access for propane. Check out is 2 pm. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very well run with excellent access for big rig. View to water is great. Closest park to NFL ferry even tho at least one of the guides refuses to list it as North Sydney but does include a competitor that is at least 5 miles further away. We stored our rig and took the toad to NFL and stayed in the rig here for one week too. John pointed me to a mechanic that did a very good job in a very timely fashion. We will stay here when we are back in the area. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Well, we stayed here on the way out to Newfoundland and how convenient is that?? Very! Arrived back 14 days later and this is a great campground. Owners are so friendly, big rig friendly, Wi-Fi works great. Price is great. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a very busy CG with all sites in an open field overlooking the beautiful bras d’Or lakes on Cape Breton Island. Because it’s the closest one to the ferry to Newfoundland (3 miles), there’s always someone leaving or arriving at all hours. When we arrived without a reservation, there were two groups (Adventurers and Good Sam) almost filling up the park. The staff could not have been more friendly and cheerful as they found us a site and gave us the option of moving to a better one in the morning after one of the groups moved on. Arrive supplied, as there’s no store within walking distance. Although there isn’t a pool, there are two under-utilized two-person whirlpools that can be used to cool down. Restrooms, showers and laundry were all spotless at all times; however, with only two showers per gender, there sometimes are lineups . Wi-Fi worked fine in the ‘information room,’ where you can also find two public telephones and lots of traded magazines and brochures, and although there’s no cable TV, we received 5 channels on our amplified antenna, the best being CBC, CTV and Global. Overall an excellent stop in route to or from the Newfoundland ferry, with lots to see, do and shop in the local area. We stopped in route to - and will stop again on the return from – the ferry. Highly recommended to all. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a pretty, well-kept campground, with a view of the lake. The sites are level and grassy, and the grass is kept mowed. The buildings look freshly painted, and are neat and clean. Personnel are friendly and helpful. There is a large barn on site which contains a full kitchen and eating area, a game room and two private rooms, each containing a Jacuzzi tub. The tubs are immaculate. Folks are asked to clean the tub after use, and the cleaning product and paper towels are provided. The campground is very close to the ferry terminal for ferries to Newfoundland. RVs may be stored here, if campers don't want to take them to Newfoundland. The campground is also a good base camp for a day trip to the Fortress of Louisbourg and other area attractions. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
